dj Playlist

Imani, on December 15, 2021 at 12:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 2

Am I supposed to give the DJ a playlist to cover the entire ceremony/reception or just give him specifics for the ceremony and introductions and then let him do his own thing based on our music genre preferences?

This will depend on your DJ and the trust you have with them! My DJ sent me a link a month before the wedding asking for “must play”, “would like to play” and “do not play at all” songs, including our first dance and parent dances. We also had to give him a timeline of the evening so he knew who to give the microphone to etc.

For cocktail hour and dinner we didn’t tell him specific songs, just genres with examples (we wanted covers of country and pop songs during cocktail hour and instrumental covers of Broadway songs during dinner).

During your meetings with them, they ask if you have song/genre/artist preferences and what you don’t want to hear. They would like some guidance on what to play, at the same time they are professional to be able to read the crowd and why they respond to. If you have favorites you want to hear, mention those, but also trust them to do their job.
