dj Pricing?

EGD, on February 17, 2021 at 10:12 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 19

I know nothing about how much a wedding should cost, so I've been getting quotes from various vendors.

I found a DJ who will provide 5 hours of DJ services for the Wedding, Ceremony Music and Microphones, an Officiant and a Photo Booth (for 3 hours) for $2,899.00

My mom seems to think this is high, but I feel that for all we're getting it seems to be pretty good.

Does anyone know if this is a good deal or does it seem high?

For me personally that's expensive but only because I personally know our DJ and he gave us a really good deal. Did you compare the price to other local DJs in your area?

A DJ is usually $1000 a photo booth is anywhere from 1000 to 1200 and officiant is anywhere from 500 to 800.

So I think the pricing is spot on

Where are you located? To me, that seems extremely expensive! But I know prices vary everywhere!

Our DJ is only $700 for 5 hours and he provides mics and lights. I'm not sure of Photo Booth and officiant pricing where you are, that may be a decent price depending!

I think that the pricing is pretty fair considering the addition of the photo booth! It does seem like a lot of money but you’d probably spend more money paying for all of those services individually from different vendors

That seems a bit on the high side to me, but it may be normal for your area. I'd shop around and then make your decision.

So to give you an example, my DJ is 3550 (this is with a $300 discount for non-Saturday weddings). The price includes six hours With ceremony, 3 TVs, Microphones, 12 up lights. If we choose to add other things like a photo booth obviously the price will go up. So yeah I think you have a pretty good deal. My state is rather high in cost, but he’s one of the more well-known DJs so it’s definitely worth it to me.

Also, we are having our friend be our officiant But the prices I was getting quoted for The more popular officiants when we were just looking around was 1000 alone. I’ve been quoted anywhere from 500 to 1000 for photo booths...

It is so interesting to see the difference in pricing for these things in different areas! If you don't mind me asking, where are you located?

Doesn’t seem to bad. I’m on Long Island (top pricing) and my DJ is doing ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception music (6.5 hours), including our name in lights on the dance floor, giant LED Mr and Mrs sign, and a live percussionist for $2800. It was a really good deal.

I chose a 360 photo booth with a different company which is $1100.

I think that’s a pretty fair price. My Dj/photo booth is 2.4K for the entire evening. It is the dj/photo booth provided by the venue. And I’m in a pricey area.

I think the best thing to do is get other quotes to compare just so you know if that’s a good price or not

Yes, this, and that applies to all of your vendors. Pricing for products and services varies wildly by location/region/even cities within the same state. This is an international forum, so no one here can really tell you what is a "fair" price or not.

The only way to know how much things "should" cost is to get ~3 local quotes for each service and compare them. And make sure that your quote for for the same range of services, so that you are comparing apples to apples.

Yes, that does seem pretty expensive! I would keep searching.

The best quote I've gotten so far with 6 hours DJ/MC, with ceremony and reception setup, wireless mics, photo booth, dance lighting is $1500.

Correction: I missed the part that said it also included an officiant. I personally haven't looked into officiant services, but if it does included that as well, that might be reasonable for your area.

Go on Yelp and contact djs in your area. What people across the country are paying is completely irrelevant.

I wonder about this often. But I think it's because weddings are often the first time people have booked vendors/signed contracts/planned a big event. It's fine not to know everything already, but this kind of advice is so basic and is mentioned in pretty much all of the wedding planning guides, so it is a bit mysterious why it's not understood better.

If you scroll up to "Planning Tools", there should be a cost calculator, which can help you find the average prices for your area.

I will say we paid less than that in NYC, but we only hired our DJ for music/emceeing, and didn't add extras.

That seems really cheap! Such a good deal! I’m in Europe and we’re paying 5k for a live band for a few hours so your deal sounds really sweet to me!!
