dj to hire or not

Megan, on May 23, 2021 at 4:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 14
If I decide no to or can’t afford to hire a DJ what else can I do. People have mentioned making a play list. How do I do that??

Well you have to make sure your venue has a hookup for a device, a lot don't and they require a DJ. If you can make a playlist use Spotify.

If you want dancing, then invest in a dj. Even if you go with someone on thumbtack.com. A playlist with a random guest (unable to enjoy the wedding while working) doesn’t have experience to read the room and change on a dime to another song if what you have doesn’t work because you don’t have the million songs on hand that a dj does. Announcements and MC duties are always optional.

I would never go without a DJ. There's a lot more that goes into DJing a wedding than just playing songs- they usually announce the WP and couple, announce when dinner is ready, announce the first dance, father/daughter, mother/son dances, they help get the crowd onto the dance floor, and they announce any specialty things like a sparkler exit, a late night snack bar, etc.

We made a playlist - we just picked the songs we wanted and created a list of those songs. The coordinator then played the appropriate song at the appropriate time (and made all announcements). HOWEVER - we were going for garden party not dance party - you're much less likely to end up with a lot of people up and dancing if you forego the DJ.

We are doing the same thing!! We only have 20 guests so paying money for a DJ sounds stupid to me. I made a playlist with a mix of everything and I’m feeling very confident our guests will love it all!

    Hi Emily,
We were onlyr having adopt 30 but looks like 40 +.
I’m not sure what to do. I don’t want to have one of my guest pushing the play buttons while they should be celebrating. I just don’t know. I am on a skeleton budget and I’m just not sure. Thank you for replying to me. Have a beautiful wedding.

Well, if it helps, I’m not having anyone pushing buttons- just going to create a playlist and letting it go!

That’s actually a great idea. How are you creating your playlist? Where are you creating the playlist. ( I don’t know a lot about those kind of things)

I’m just pulling songs from my iTunes and putting everything in a specific order on my phone... like first dance, father daughter, etc. And that way it’s all ready to just roll one song to another for the entire evening.
