DJ too expensive?

MrsMtobe, on August 21, 2017 at 9:45 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 35

I found a really great DJ with awesome reviews and got back to me within an hour of reaching out to him. My parents are paying for the wedding, and my mom said he was very expensive for a DJ. It was going to be about $2500 for ceremony and reception. What does everyone else think about what a "normal" price would be? I honestly have no idea and want to have a better idea when I'm researching. TIA!

That does sound expensive to me, but I don't know where you live, so that could make a difference.

I agree with the comment above. I'm in MA and for DJ services, mine is around $1600.

It depends on so many factors. Where you are, the day/time you're getting married, how many hours you need, other logistics of your day, etc.

We're doing a ceremony/reception all in one place so the DJ will only have to set up once and be there for 6-7 hours depending on set up /tear down time. Our base package is $2000 but we'll probably end up closer to $2500 because we're planning to upgrade some things.

It was (I think) $1500 for a 4 hour reception. And an additional $250 for ceremony and an additional $100 for every additional hour. Plus gratuity. It's a NYE wedding so the reception will be from 8-1. I'm in AL, things are a lot cheaper here than other places.

If you asked for extras like uplighting AND he's also doing the ceremony, I could see it being pretty expensive, but $2500 still seems high to me. Do you know exactly what was included in that quote?

Your area does sound cheaper, but I'm wondering if he's charging more because it's NYE.

Shew, that seems like a lot to me. We paid $1,100 for ceremony sound equipment, 4 hour reception and uplighting.

ETA: I'm in the suburbs of Baltimore so things aren't cheap.

There is really no such thing as normal price because it depends on your location. I am in NY and my DJ is $3600. So your price seems fantastic to me.

We just got a quote from one for 900. Includes 6 hours of music (ceremony and reception), plus an uplighting package. They give a discount to couples that book at a venue where their sound equipment is already installed and we chose one of their more popular places they dj at.

It depends on all the additions you want and how important they are. We got a basic package and it was under $1000 - really don't need the lights and smoke or the initials on the ground lol. We booked him because we really enjoyed a wedding he DJed at!

That sounds pretty pricey in my opinion, but like what other people said it depends on where you are.

With our DJ, we know him quite personally from karaoke and open mic sessions he hosts locally. They're initially priced at $700 if not a bit more for the basic package, but they're giving us a $200 discount! My mom is so persistent on us using someone else, but we're set with our own choice!

Don't worry, everyone! We've done our research on how our choice performs at weddings, and they're almost 5 stars!

I reached out to about 20 DJs. I got prices ranging from 850-2100. Photobooths were usually an additional 650-1200. I ended up going with the DJ my venue recommended who gave us a special price for getting married at our venue. I think he is about 1100 for 6.5 hours. (No photobooth through him)

$2500 - $3500 for 6 hrs (ceremony & reception) is the norm for my area (Seattle). I only found one DJ that was less than that who had good reviews. We ended up getting the wedding show special, which was $300 off their normal pricing. We paid $1050.

I reached out to about 10 DJ's in my area (Orlando, FL) and for 5 hours, ceremony and reception with uplighting ranged from $****. I wound up winning a discount at a bridal show so I got my $1300 package for $650.

I'm guessing your date makes it more expensive...our DJ told us his rate was more for Saturday then our Friday wedding, so I can only imagine NYE
