Do All Inclusives Get Boring?

MaggieMary, on November 30, 2016 at 3:59 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 37

My fiancé and I are trying to plan our honeymoon. We're (hopefully) thinking between $5,000 - 6,000.

We would be honeymooning in mid-November. We were thinking of trying maybe Italy or an all-inclusive.

Other than for school, neither of us have travelled a lot. I like the idea of not having to do anything after the stress of wedding planning (hence the pull towards an all-inclusive) but I also wonder if it wouldn't get boring without proper sight seeing?

Thoughts? Italy v. Sandals? Other suggestions?

Help me Obi Wan Kenobi!

You can still go sight-seeing with an all-inclusive...

We went to Sandals and it was amazing. We didn't even have time to do all of the all-inclusive activities let alone the paid excursions. We did leave the resort for one day to sight see. You are not stuck there.

All inclusives are popular for a reason...whether it be the venue or the honeymoon.

I think all-inclusives are fantastic. We did one in Hawaii for our HM, and sitting on that beach was *exactly* what I needed. As Flighty said, you they won't lock you in-- if you want to go sight seeing, you can, so it might be the best way to go-- sleep late, eat your included breakfast, go see some sights, come back for your lunch, 'rest', go see some more sights... what's not to love?

All inclusive are great! Especially if you haven't been to one before. Literally all the food and drinks are paid for your whole vacation! And there are excursions that you can go on but will cost extra, still super fun. There are a lot of great ones like catamaran trips and zip lining etc.. Definitely worth going at least once.

Italy on the other hand...is Italy lol Who wouldn't want to go there!?

I'm not fond of them but people seem to love them. I like to meet people from the countries I visit and see everything on my own, not with a tour or group. It's just a personal preference thing. i don't find them boring, it's more that I could go down the street to the big resort and stay there and have the same experience. Luxurious yes, but not my kind of travel.

The food gets old really fast. You'll want to go out and experience the local cuisine and culture.

I think it also depends where you are. If you're in a highly populated area (Cancun/Playa del Carmen), you can easily walk/taxi to the city and tours are plentiful. But if you're in a more remote area (I recall a resort in the Dominican Republic), there's really not much to do.

All inclusives are awesome for groups IMO- but not so much for a long honeymoon. FH and I are thinking about doing AI for the first 3 days or so, but then renting a place and being on our own.

I like them except for the fact that I like to eat at local/unique restaurants, so an all inclusive isn't the best for that. I agree with AK that they are fun for groups, when I went on spring break in college it was great but I wouldn't want to do one for my honeymoon, just because of the food aspect.

All inclusive means food/bev is included. Some resorts (like Sandals) also include water activities (jet ski's, parasailing, flyboards) as well; at other resorts you pay for water activities through a third person. Also, most resorts have specialty restaurants that are included as part of your package, and you'll need to make a reservation at these restaurants unlike the buffet restaurants on the property.

So I'm not really sure you have the right definition of what an all inclusive is. You can still leave the resort and do whatever you want - whether that be eating at a restaurant off the resort, or doing some sort of sightseeing. Again, most excursions are not through the resort, but there will be someone at concierge that will help you book something.

I've done all inclusives twice, one in Cancun and one in Puerto Vallarta. I have learned that five days is a good length of time for me (I tend to just want to be back in my own bed by that point). FH and I also make it a point to try to leave the hotel almost daily. In PV, we went to Old Town PV and explored for an afternoon, we walked along the beach to the next town south one and walked around there and had lunch one day, and did one excursion. It made the time we spent in the ocean and drinking in the pool a little better. We aren't doing an all inclusive for our HM (FH's aunts gave us access to their timeshare), and I'm actually excited for the change.

We have always done all inclusive and we love it. We leave the resort when we feel like it and never had an issue. We generally stay in big resorts and never had a problem with the food. Most of the time we haven't even gotten to all of them.

But that's our idea of what we want out of a holiday. We want to sit by pool/beach have drinks and relax. It's nice to not worry about paying for everything once your there

I always thought they were boring until I actually did one. We went to Secrets Cancun for a bit over a week. There was a new restaurant to try almost every night, and a bunch of pools and the beach was 20 feet away.

If you wanted to get up super early, you could go sightseeing at ruins.

We went to Xplor an adventure water park for a day (driving amphibious vehicles and zipling into waterfalls, etc.) and it was amazing but mostly we got drunk in the pool and made out a lot. It was fantastic.

ETA: Oh, and the resort had events. Day events, night events. The night before we left they had a casino night which led to a kareoke night and fake auction (with the money you won at casino night). FH and I won a free 3 night stay (if you book a week) and a huge bottle of tequila.

Also FH brought the house down with his rendition of Bon Jovi's "Always".

And a bird ate out of his hand.

I was all ready to book a sandals resort and at the last minute I got this weird feeling. It seems so amazing but I think I'd be ready to go after the third day or so. I haven't been, so I can't say for sure, just my gut feeling.

For our honeymoon we did two weeks and were ready to go home. One week is way too short and two weeks was a bit too long. We are going for ten days next and see if that's perfect for us.

I go to an all-inclusive every year, never leave the resort and never get bored. There are so many activities, and honestly, FH and I just love to read on the beach.

All inclusive are AWESOME!!! You can still leave and do tours but knowing you have food and drinks available at anytime is huge for me. Get bored? Drink then get a crazy idea and go for it! Smiley winking

What about a cruise? Maybe a mediterranean one?

Its like the best of both worlds. You go out and have an adventure in a new city every day, and then enjoy the ship at night.

I've never done an all inclusive vacation, but you mentioned Italy in your original post and that's where we went! It was wonderful
