Do B Vitamins Alone Help Stop Hair Loss?

Amber, on March 18, 2014 at 3:24 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 9

I would be pullng my hair out trying to understand vitamins role in hair regrowth, if I had enough hair. I have been researching ideas to stop my hair loss and get it to grow a little more, but I am curious what works for some of you.

I read on an article on LiveStrong, where they talk about vitamin B6 being effective in hair regrowth in several studies. They allude to the idea that B6 reduces the amount of DHT in the blood and therefore stops damage to hair follicles and can even help them reactivate. Here's where I get a touch confused.

I know I could go to a vitamin store and get just B6, but is that all I need. I was looking at this product on Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/Vibrance-Vitamins-Vegetarian-Capsules-Formula/dp/B00G6U4ZI6/, and it seems to indicate it is better to have a balance of vitamins and minerals to balance the effects and give the body all the building blocks necessary.

Have you had your thyroid and iron levels checked? They both play majors roles in hair breakage. There are so many factors outside of vitamin B that effect hair health and growth.

I was losing hair terribly for years with no relief. I thought for sure I would be bald by the time I was 30 - it was totally demoralizing.

Then - I quit taking the pill. Within 2 months I could actually see the small hairs of regrowth and within 8 months a really noticeable difference - like multiple people commenting on how thick my hair was looking and asking me my secret. It was amazing. Long story short I don't know if you're taking the pill, or any other meds, but you may want to try stopping anything and seeing if it helps.

    Good luck.

I have not heard of B Vitamin for hair although it is possible and it is good to take either way, won't hurt. As far as stopping hair loss, I recommend Biotin it is incredible for hair, and nails. If you do think you are loosing a huge amount per day, I would go to the Dr. and check your thyroid and iron, those play a significant role in hair loss. I used to have a thyroid deficiency and I would loose so much hair I almost got scared, but to this day I still loose a lot so I am not sure sometimes I think its genetic as well.

I actually had hair transplant surgery for the wedding, and along with it, tons of vitamins. One supplement that I started taking is Biotin; I know that it works because my nails are actually strong, for the first time in my life. But all I can say is that the combo of surgery, laser treatments, Rogain, vitamins, and supplements have made a huge difference in my hair. I used to have a part that was as wide as my finger, now it's just a couple of millimeters wide. Also, my friend started using Rogain when I had my surgery and she has had great success with it (we both use the men's version). After 9 months of treatment I can honestly say that both of us have results. Also, eating the right "hair" foods also helps.

Pills arent the answer, pills are a substitute for foods, and the foods key in hair would be vitamin A(orange veges) vitamin E (fish oils). But yes if you have to take pills youll want to combo A E b6 and your metals

I went to the dermatologist for hair thinning as well and he recommended taking men's rogaine. My hair loss is caused by stress and by a medicine I can't stop taking. Have you visited your dermatologist yet? They can identify potential causes (ie. physiological vs behavioral).

Have your hormones checked…I have PCOS which is a hormone condition and it's caused me to loose over half my hair (luckily I had a lot but it's still so thin now) and I take meds for it. They don't really regrow the hair but it's stopped falling out as bad. I wish I had go ton them 3 years earlier which is when the hair loss started and very one told me it was stress or normal cycle changes Smiley sad
