Do colors need to match the season of the wedding?

GoodMOB, on October 9, 2017 at 2:36 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 25

Mother of the Bride here, and have been given free reign by my daughter to make decorations and centerpieces. Daughter says she likes blue and silver, which is beautiful! Are there any rules, do you think, for matching the colors to the season? If wedding is in April, do the colors need to be spring-like, or how does one make decorations look more like a specific season?

Colors are based off of your preference. My wedding is in August and my colors are wine/burgundy with burlap and ivory.

There are no rules. I mean, sure, if you had an outdoor wedding in July on a farm and your centerpieces were snowflakes or Christmas colors it would look odd (LOL) but it certainly doesn't have to be pale colors or certain colors since it's in the spring.

I personally dislike an out and out theme, but is there a particular look or concept she has in addition to the color choice (which is super pretty)?

We're doing navy and grey/silver, but our flowers will be oranges, yellows, and reds which are in season for autumn.

My wedding colors are maroon, navy blue, gold and plush pink... in the summer. I liked them, so who cares!

The only time I think color matters is at least "going with" the color/decor of your venue, and if they have decorations at that time of year. For example, our venue decorates for Christmas - so if you want purple and orange in December it is going to look weird with the red and green Christmas decor all around. Also, if a venue has red carpet for example, and you make everything hot pink and lime green, that can be a little weird. You don't have to chose the same colors as your venue, but it shouldn't clash terribly with them.

I think the colors should go with the season...but you can find shades of most colors in every season!

For example...spring might be a light baby blue, while fall would be a dusty blue.

I am having merlot and blush in late August. I love dark colors and they will add to the charm and character of the venue

Well technically there's no rules, but some people are particular about that sort of thing. I think blue and silver can go with any season.
