Do guests really take CP? I have NEVER been to a wedding where guests took the CP. FH's family thinks it is the funniest thing that I did not know about this. They told me, that if they think they need 2 they will take one off another table also. So is it tacky if we put a nice framed note on the tables that politely say, DONT TAKE MY S*&%!!!!!! I also suggested putting a tag on the bottom of the CP that say property of "venue name" and they said it does not matter. People are still going to take them.

Desiree, We had a woman ask and try for a carry out at my grandfathers funeral. She was not family or friend and she was asked to leave.

I love the zip locks in the purse ladies that is too funny.

I think the DJ will be announcing that the venue requires all glass to be left inside the building. Maybe that will be the polite way? What do you all think?

I would much rather say if you did not pay for it then don't steal it. No one ever said I was known for my tactful ways.

Susan, Yes we call them the bag ladies for a reason. They even wrap stuff in a napkin and shove it in their purses. I crack up. No food goes in my purse much less a slice of ham. Yes I have seen it.

I am not new to seeing someone pull out ziploc bags out buffet style events, I cringe that I know a few in my family, but to take a whole centerpiece without asking or given permission, makes me wonder "Who does that!" But since it is Mother's Day weekend during my wedding we will offer the flowers to the oldest mother(s) at the reception in Honor of My Belated Mother!

I have been at weddings where the bride and groom gave away the centerpieces (because the didn't need them or want to keep them), but I've never seen someone take them uninvited - that is incredible rude and horrible. Since when is taking something that isn't yours okay? I don't understand why your FH family was surprised by your reaction.

Are you having a big wedding? If it is a small wedding or mostly family, maybe it would just be easier to have family spread the word that the centerpieces are not up for grabs (that the vases are rented, belong to the venue, or something). This may be better than an announcement.
