Do I need a guestbook?

Hannah, on August 1, 2015 at 9:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 29

I've been looking for one but I wonder if it's worth the money? If I get one, I want it to be a nice one that lasts and fits with my decor so I can keep it in my bookcase in my living room. So I don't want some cheap cliche "guestbook." I just wonder if any married ladies have any thoughts on this. Did guests sign yours? Do you look at it after?

ETA: typos

We are actually doing something different than a traditional guest book. Our ceremony is in Hawaii with a weekend long celebration (not a traditional reception) at home in Las Vegas the following weekend. So instead of the guest book we are buying a nice book full of Hawaii photos and having our guests pick a page that they love to sign with their wishes for us. This way we can also display it in our house.

We are going to build a bench and have people sign that. I would never look back through a guestbook but will sit on a bench in the backyard!

I'm not doing one. I was thinking about it and I know I'll never look in a book. I'll also never hang anything in my house like that. Plus, my guest list is only 55 people. I should remember who was there lol

We're actually doing a globe, since we're well-traveled and want something relevant we could keep on display.

Nope. I'm not doing a guest book, or any alternate versions either. My group is less than 70 people and the guests at my sister's wedding mostly just signed their name and barely filled 2-3 pages. Not worth the money for something I don't care about, I figured.

We did a shutterfly album of our engagement pictures. Turned out good. We then had a way to display engagement pictures and a guest book that we'd actually look at again.

We are doing a Photobooth and the guests will have the option to put a copy of their photos in a scrapbook. There will be gel pens and they can write whatever they want next to the photos. We also get a USB of all of the photos.

Eta: the photobooth attendant will look after it. You don't have to have a guestbook if you don't want to.

I'm doing a drop heart guestbook. I bought the metal frame pieces from Hobby Lobby and put them together (and put a backing to it).

I bought wooden hearts and sharpie pens (non-acid). I painted the wooden hearts white, so they could pop on the black background (and the pens are also black ink). I will be making a center heart (larger than the other wooden hearts) with our names and date -- I will probably paint that center heart in silver.

I did a shutterfly book and I've looked at it several times since getting married. (1) It had our favorite engagement and childhood pics in it and (2) our guests wrote really sweet and funny messages.

I'd recommend something because you're going to be so busy you might not realize who all was there (especially if some had to leave early before you thanked them).

I am not doing a guest book. It is Irish tradition to get married by water and then guest pick up a stone and bless the bride and groom then toss it into the body of water where ceremony was performed. I am not getting married by a body of water so we purchased a bird bath that is absolutely gorgeous and heavy LOL. I am buying river rocks from Dollar Tree and having a friend from college explain to people what the tradition is and to hand them a stone. After the wedding I will put the bird bath in our yard and the stones in a vase or make stepping stones out of them to put around the bird bath.

I was thinking about ordering this monogram wooden glass box and guests sign wine corks to drop in.

I'm doing the Jenga thing for our "guest book". Instead of the little regular Jenga we're going to get "man"-Jenga for everyone to sign, write notes, draw on, etc. I know we'll never look at a guest book and this is something we'll actually use when we have parties. I really like the bench idea too so it's a good thing I have some time to decide which one to go with.
