Do i really need a seating chart for a small wedding?

We're having a small wedding (36 people) and will have place cards at each seat with people's names on them since we're doing long tables and want to make sure everyone has a spot. Do I need a seating chart? I was going to make one to tell people which table to sit at (1, 2, or 3) along with which side of the table they're on (left or right), but I'm wondering if it's even worth it for such a small guest count. By the way, table 1 will be family (9 people, most of whom will be at the venue early for photos so they will have PLENTY of time to find their seats), table 2 is people in the wedding (6 people), and table 3 is the big, long main table with 18 people (and the only one that might take a minute for people to find their seats). Thoughts?

I asked my planner the exact same question and he said it wasn’t worth the expense. We have about 32 guests total. He suggested having a family member let people know certain tables were for family only or the wedding party. While other guests can take the time to find their place card at their seat. It wouldn’t take them too long since it’s a small number of guests.

Good to know! That was my thought as well. I was going to DIY a display and make a sign and it just doesn't seem worth the effort or money to make it.

We’re doing one long table for approximately 30 people and are foregoing the chart.

Can you maybe have someone announce the tables, like "immediate family at table 1 and wedding party at table 2" so that way guests at least can have an idea of what table to look at for their seats. Maybe the DJ/MC or even a member of the waitstaff to help.

    I wouldn't do a seating chart, I don't think there is a need.

We’re planning for 30 people including ourselves and a handful of children. My understanding is that we’ll have our sweetheart table, a round “kids table,” and 2 other tables for everyone else. The only organization I have in mind right now is sitting our older family members together so they can mingle. That’s pretty much where I am right now. 😂

Anytime guests will be sitting to eat more than just cake and desserts, regardless of the guest count, you need escort cards and assigned tables. Skip the poster that causes confusion and go with the cards which your caterer require each person to have, especially if you are having a plated meal. If you don’t, even with under 10 people, you will have couples split and reliving the traumatic high school cafeteria.

Nah, you're good as long as the seats are marked with place cards.

Only if you want them to sit in specific spots
