Do It Yourself Air bnb

Amber, on November 4, 2019 at 5:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
I'm thinking of going Airbnb route and renting tables and chairs. I've priced it out and it winks almost be the same if not less than what venues are charging!! So I'm curious how many of you used an air bnb type place instead of an actual wedding venue and had to use a rental group for tables and chairs and all that? Pros and cons with it?

Unfortunately, Airbnb is banning party houses because of a recent shooting. It sounds like they're going to be pretty strict about it.

Like Caytlyn said (I didn't know about that specific event but just in general) cities & counties are banning parties held at rental houses so that would include weddings. Some cities have noise ordinances so you'd have to contain everything to inside after a certain time and that might be a pain, some cities don't allow you to smoke outside (if any of your guests do), and some require permits for parties. I'd also be considered with neighbors complaining. Depending on amount of guests, is there enough parking? Are there enough bathrooms? What about bugs in the summer, or barking dogs from surrounding neighbors?

Interesting. I didn't know this was a new thing. I must have lucked out. The FH and I found a 3 acre rental property in virginia so we are going to look at it next week. It's right on a lake with 3 acre land and we're planning a fall fall wedding so we might just luck out. But this is good to know. Hm

Even assuming they let you host a wedding there, it has been known to happen to brides on here who have gone this route for the Airbnb host to cancel the reservation before the wedding. If memory serves me right, there was a cancellation within two weeks of the wedding - yikes!

It is usually tricky to host a wedding at anyone's home (even an Airbnb) unless you have a very small guest list and don't require extra bathrooms and a lot of rentals. Just be sure to compare all the costs from getting all the rentals, permits, insurances versus hosting the wedding at a facility equipped with all this in place. Also be sure your contract with the Airbnb host specifies that you are allowed to have your wedding there and your guest total is allowed at the property.

I would bring up the recent news with the owner and see what their take is. Also, are they able to provide anything in writing, like a contract or rental agreement honoring your date and providing cancelation framework?

3 acres will be beautiful in the fall!

Totally agree! Thank you ladies so much for the help. I truly had no idea about all of this. But we're going to see the place next week so I'll definitely be bringing it up. Uh back to the drawing board haha. Weddings are so darn expensive 😫

If you're eloping or having a small amount of guests I think you can make it work! Definitely communicate your plans upon initial booking or beforehand by messaging the host. I have stayed in a few airbnbs that allowed this and had hosted small weddings before or been used as getting ready locations.

I agree with Earias. I remember the bride whose Airbnb cancelled on her right before the wedding. Be absolutely honest about your intentions with the Airbnb host, to try to eliminate/minimize any unhappy surprises. Also, go beyond just the Airbnb owner's approval to check on local community laws and regulations. An owner's okay does not mean a local ordinance might not shut your event down.
