Do Not Play list!

Can we talk about songs we absolutely do NOT want played at our weddings? Most of the songs listed above haha - Neither of us want line dances (no one in my circle likes these), country (I couldn't name a single country song lol), Sweet Caroline or journey (over played). My fiancé is more picky than I am so his list is longer lol. Definitely no break up songs or the like...but this is a given and my DJ knows enough not to play those.

I have the Cupid shuffle I like that a lot. But I don’t want any foul music or anything sexual cause that would throw me off. I definitely found it hard to find dance music. Any other music like during dinner, and cocktail hour was easy. Dance though I can’t stand a lot of the songs people said above me so I pray they don’t play them lol

This is such a good topic for discussion! I’m a big fan of line dances like the electric slide and cha cha slide. Only because I’m not a very good dancer (despite being Hispanic), and these songs would get me on the dance floor. However, my fiancé HATES line dances. I don’t know how to compromise.

Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison. I hate that song and it's so popular at weddings. Also Sweet Caroline.

Beyonce, Kanye, Chris Brown, Miley Cyrus, Ed Sheeran, Neil Diamond, Taylor Swift, I’m sure there’s more..

Our groups run to the dance floor for the line dances and Chicken dance. Which is fine and they are fun. Plus the last few weddings we attended had some “not wedding appropriate” lyrics and people had a blast dancing. Honestly guests don’t care about lyrics if it’s danceable.

I HATE Rod Stewart. That's all for my do not play list. FH, has a bunch, but they aren't songs that would be played at a wedding anyway, so I don't care. LOL!

I am the hater of line dances in my couple! But I agreed to the Cupid shuffle because it at least has some soul. Maybe your fiancé will agree to one or two!

I spoke to him about agreeing to at least two line dance songs and he said yes!

I hadn't thought specifically about a "do not playlist", but now I sure will! I had just instructed the DJ not to play unedited versions of songs (radio version only). My fiance and I are a bit older and so most people coming to the wedding will be in their 70s, 80s, and 90s. Guess I'll also think about songs we don't want to hear! I would like to avoid a whole lot of sad, sappy music. I went to my cousin's wedding in October (when my aunt and uncle just died) and instead of a happy occasion, the reception was turned into an event where every song was dedicated to people who died that week....and there wasn't a fun, fast song in there! I know to each their own, but it really brought down the feel of the reception.

What happens if you hamper the DJ down too much? Probably it would help to ask potential DJs what options they have for energizing the event . If it is just the songs you don't like, it could be difficult or a mismatch.

I put all those songs/dances on the DNP list, too! We didn't have a very long DNP list, but the two songs I insisted not be played were "Single Ladies" by Beyonce and "Butterfly Kisses".
