Are you planning to sign (or did you sign) a prenuptial agreement before your wedding day?

If you don't want a prenup that's fine. But, I don't know why your talking if you've never seen one yourself. The OP is asking if anyone is considering it. It's not for you to try to dissuade others.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I hope you're doing okay. If you're in the US, your spouse isn't entitled to your inheritance unless you put it into a joint account. I'm not a lawyer though, what I know comes from me being in a similar position.

I‘m not trying to discourage anyone from getting a prenup as my first post in this thread shows, just stating what would and wouldn’t work for me.

I was more recently talking about using a prenup to cover specific situations for example financing mutual children and vacations going forward. If I couldn’t agree with a future spouse on those sort of things without the need for lawyers I simply don’t think we’d be very compatible. I don’t know how my personal view affects anyone else.

I can totally understand how a prior divorce can motivate someone to get a prenup for a future marriage! And especially since what you both want isn't considered standard, that's another good reason to write it down in a prenup.

This is such a genius idea! Like unofficially making a prenups and saving it just in case. I will discuss it with my fiance. We can make the document signed and keep it with our important files.

We're signing one, not because we'll divorce but if we were too, we don't have to fight over who's things are who's.

Experience with divorce seems to be a good motivator to sign a prenup! Divorces can get really messy really quickly, and if a prenup could potentially help avoid that, it's totally worth it. No one goes into a marriage expecting to get divorced, but the reality is that divorce does happen, so it's better to be prepared (and hopefully not need it).

To answer your question, I'm actually not sure whose property it would be considered, but my guess would be that it depends on whose name is on the title (as opposed to where the money came from to buy it)? That would be a great question to ask a lawyer!

Also, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad.

Very cool that you're open to signing one if your partner also wants one!

I agree that storing it with your important documents is a good idea! Possibly also have multiple copies - one for you, and one for your partner, just in case.

That's why my husband and I signed one too! We don't ever intend to divorce, but if something happens and we end up in that situation, a prenup would help guide us through dividing everything.

No, but my fiance joked that we should get one for our Godzilla collections, but nah, we are probably going to just get a notarized document of our lists of our collections

That makes sense! Always a good idea to keep a document of all the items in your collections.

No, a prenup would not cover vacations. That would be ludicrous. But, I have seen prenups that detail how much the wife would get per number of children.

Again, this is me, but I wouldn't be marrying someone who was asking for things like that to be on the table and would not be in a situation to be negotiating on that basis in the first place.
