Do the engagement photo outfits need to match the wedding colors,

So my fiancé and I are getting married June 4 of 2022. Our colors are off white , sage and gold. We have not done our proposal photo shoot yet. But I want to do it in the fall and I want him to be wearing a navy blue suit and burgundy floral tie and I want to wear a burgundy gown. My question is are the outfits for the engagement photo supposed to somewhat represent the actual color scheme of the wedding?

Not at all! You can wear whatever you like! That said, if you're like me, my wedding colours are my favourite colours, and so it was natural I wanted to wear them for our engagement shoot too. We actually ended up finding it very useful for save the dates to have photos in the colours we wanted to use for the wedding, but your mileage may vary on that - not everyone sends save the dates, and not everyone who sends save the dates uses photos on them!

Wear whatever you are comfortable in. They don’t need to match.

We didn't even think about our wedding colors when planning for our engagement pictures lol. It doesn't need to match at all

I would think you WOULDN'T want them to match so it feels like (and looking back at pictures) as two separate special moments in your life

I specifically picked our outfits to NOT match. Our wedding is in the fall and I want engagement photos in winter, so I went with burgundys and pinks for our photo outfits and our wedding colors are navy and orange.

No, they don't need to match. Our wedding colors were red and black. Our more casual outfit we wore navy and our formal outfit I wore black and he wore khakis and a burgundy polo.
