Do we have to leave our reception after our sparkler photos?

sanders4ever, on November 20, 2016 at 8:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

I was planning on a sparkler send off. We only have our photographer for 10 hours so we will have to do it early at 9:45 but our reception doesn't end until 11. Would it be dumb if we didn't leave after the sparkler pictures and stayed until the end of our reception? Or do we have to leave?

I went to a wedding where they did this once. Everyone has ushered outside for the "exit"... And then told to go back in. It was confusing and killed the party vibe.

I think so. But I don't like the idea of "faking an exit". We just left our reception at the end time as normal, packing things up. No fancy exit. I don't feel cheated out of anything. I think fancy exits are just another Pinterest thing that aren't necessary especially if you aren't actually leaving.

Maybe we'll just end it early then.

Is 6-10 a long enough reception?

I had to do a fake exit for this same reason. It did kill the reception vibe some, but that picture is my favorite of my sneak peek pics.

It feels weird and showy. As a guest, Id feel like a photo prop.

Having a send off isnt weird, having a fake exit is weird and would make me feel like a photo prop. You are creating a fake experience for the sake of pictures.

If your reception was outside you could get a sparkler picture with you and your husband on the dance floor. A fake exit is weird. Can't you just have your photographer come later in the day so that they stay until end time ?

Ok well doesn't anyone care to answer the previous question I asked on if a 6-10 reception is too short? Cuz if it's not I'll just end the reception at 10 and go to my hotel with my jacuzzi tub.

I would say have your VIPs sneak out for a quick pic and then go back in. For all the guest to leave that seems like a lot of transitions.

And 6-10 seems short to me but I always stay until the end and never want weddings to end.

My reception will only be 4 hours, including cocktail hour.

Are you having a cocktail hour? Ours was from 6-7 and reception was from 7-11. I think 4 hours is typical for a reception.

6-10 is 4 hours... at that point I'm more than happy to go home.

If you really want to do later you can ask your photographer how much she charges for an extra hour or two. That's what we're doing so we can get some extra couple shots after our exit since we wanted some at sunset

I totally wanted a cool sparkler photo too... but we'll be leaving a restaurant an it just seemed kind of weird. So, instead we're going to do a photo with us kissing and holding a sparkler behind us.
