Do we need a hotel room block?

Caitlin, on November 9, 2022 at 10:35 AM Posted in Planning 0 7
So a lot of our guests will be driving 30-45 minutes to the ceremony and reception (it’s all in one location) Is it necessary to do hotel blocks? Or could you just put a card in the invitation with hotels in the area?

I wouldn't make a hotel block. If your venue is only 30-45 minutes away from where people live, I don't expect too many people will want to spend the money on an overnight stay. You could put hotel information on your website, that way people have it if they decide they would like to stay overnight. (Hopefully that made sense lol)

Thank you so much! I was thinking the same thing. And with us knowing our guests so well I don’t think a lot of them would do it

It doesn’t serve any purpose to have a block when guests are local. Many people don’t stay in hotels in their own city.

A block is really only beneficial when you are marrying in an area where it’s peak tourist season and no other hotel options are in the area.

I wouldn’t do a hotel if they are 30-40 minutes out. I did put a list of hotels with my invitations so that they can choose whether or not they want to stay over night. Also I did it that way because I had guest who was traveling from other states to the wedding.

If the block is free to make and you are not responsible for any unbooked room, if you can make a small block, and if there is a decent discount on the rooms I would make one. Especially if your wedding will be ending later in the night. But ultimately it is up to you. Happy planning!

I agree with rosebud. My hotel blocks were free and any unused room by a certain date just went back out to the public. I’d do it just in case!

We did a hotel block so our guest can have if ppl were to tired or shouldn't be driving because they had too much to drink. And not to have them all over in different places with 1 flat rate
