Do you need a dj for a park ceremony/reception?

Hi!

I am getting married in a picnic shelter at a local park May 2022. My vision is a very casual vibe (it's an "I Do BBQ").

We weren't planning on hiring a DJ because our budget is tight and were just going to create a playlist on Spotify and let it run. But of course, I am now having doubts.

A DJ seems a bit much for a wedding in a park, but that is my opinion.

What does everyone else think?

My husband and I did a backyard wedding and designated his cousin who was our day of coordinator to play certain songs we had on the playlist for the ceremony, and first dances. We designated one of the groomsman to play songs from his playlist (since we have the same music taste) during dinner time, and for when everyone was on the dance floor. It saved us a BUNCH of money for not hiring a DJ and MC. Smiley smile

I think doing something like Heather did would be perfect!! A DJ definitely feels like a lot for a park wedding, and you'd need to figure out a lot of tech logistics!

I think doing a Spotify playlist will be perfect, and it would be extra nice to have someone designated as the music person so they can troubleshoot any issues that may arise or play specific songs for you!
