Do you take off your ring...

Does anyone take off their engagement or wedding ring while sleeping, working out, showering, cleaning, swimming...or any other time? Right before I got engaged, I started noticing women with rings on (probably because I had e-rings on my brain at all times!) at places like the gym and the beach and I was surprised. I would be afraid of losing it or catching it on something, etc. We got engaged in Vegas and spent a couple of days out at the pool while there. FH and I were both very adamant about leaving my ring locked up in the safe while we were at the pool. My sister mentioned sleeping and showering with hers on and I realized it never occured to me that it would be "safe" to do so. So how many of you leave yours on at all times?

Only take it off to shower, cook, dishes, or clean, otherwise its in the original box or in one of those orange prescription bottles so it can't get knocked down a drain.

Cleaning and gym and the rings stay in their box.

Swimming too. One inhuman scream in the pool over a lost ring last summer in Puerto Rico was enough to convince me.

The only time I take my ring off is to clean with an abrasive chemical. I used to take it off to wash my hands and put on lotion, then one day I walked out the house and left the ring on the bed. It freaked me out that I had forgotten and said I would never take it off, not even to cook, like Paula Dean says "That's why there's jewelry cleaner"

I never take mine off but you really should take it off when you're swimming, sweating, showering or using any kinds of lotion or cleaning product. I used to work at a jewelry manufacture. If you have a white gold or platinum ring its dipped in rhodium to make it white or shinny. By using lotions, shampoos, soaps, cleaning solutions or chemicals from the pool causes the rhodium to wear off. Once it wears off the white gold will look yellow because white cold is actually a faint yellow and the rhodium makes it white. Platinum is actually supposed to be dull but the rhodium makes it shine. You can always get your ring re-dipped and that's what I'm going to do before the big day. Advise bring your wedding band and e ring together so the rhodium matches.

@Stacia, good for others to know. As a apart of my warranty with my jeweler they do a rhodium did free once a year, so my ring always looks amazing.

I must be the odd one here. I have a job where I cannot wear rings so my e-ring spends more time off my hand than on. I usually put it on after I get home but I am afraid that I will 'forget' to take it off in the am so I never sleep in it either.

I only take mine off to dry it when I wash my hands. Other than that I leave it on 24/7.

My FH proposed to me while we was on a cruise so at first I was very nervous to wear it in the pool and hot tub but we asked a married couple and they said it would be safe so i wore it because it was still so brand new to me....now that it's been a while I do take it off when I shower and sometimes when i do the dishes and cook and when I go on the rides at the amusement park.....I lost so many things that night but the one thing I kept my eye on the entire time was my ring

@Brittney - do you find that you actually need to have your ring redipped every year? Mine is white gold also and it's just now starting to show some yellow wear on the backside of the band. I prefer the color of white gold to platinum, but I wonder if it will get old taking it in every year for the rest of eternity. Smiley smile

My jeweler offers that too, I figured I would wait until right before the wedding so it was sparkly in the photos. Smiley smile Just wondering how often you actually do that.

I only take it off to shower. I'm another one of those who feels like I'll lose it or forget it if I take it off. I hate when I forget to put it back on. Mine fits pretty snug so I'm not worried about it falling off anywhere.

I take mine off when i sleep, shower, & put on lotion [or things of the liking]. i'm too afraid of losing it or something happening to it otherwise :/.

a few months ago, i was getting ready for work [in the early am hours when it's still dark] & it wasn't on the night stand where i ALWAYS set it every night. my heart just dropped & i flipped out, turned on the light, woke FH up, & we looked under EVERYTHING, kid you not. i decided to look behind the night stand one more time & guess what.. it was there, kind of under the alarm clock cords [i must have gotten crazy in my sleep that night or something haha]. i was so relieved. you have no idea. i never want to have that feeling again!

@Kris S. I have had my e-ring for about 3 years and I have had it dipped twice. Once after about a year of having it because the yellow gold started to come through on the backside and then right before the wedding so it would look brand spanking new. You probably don't need to do it every year, but I guess it's good to have the option if you need it.

A good idea for when you do take off your ring is to string it onto a necklace. I usually slip it onto a silver chain I have if I absolutely have to take it off.

I can't stand to sleep with any jewelry on. I take all my jewelry off when I get home and I put it in the same place.

I only take off my ring to lotion my hands...that's it...

It's platinum and diamonds so washing dishes, cooking, working out, etc....won't do anything to it...

I just don't like the diamonds getting dull via lotion. I clean it once a month or as needed with my Diamond Dazzle Stick that's in my bag...

My ring only comes off if I'm putting lotion on... Recently I was without it because I had to take it in to be resized and I felt soooo lost. It's now a fixture on my hand.
