Do you think I will need an under skirt/hoop??

Hayley, on December 1, 2014 at 3:23 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

I bought my dress at a sample sale so I did not have a hoop skirt underneath it.

It is not altered yet, but here it is when I tried it on, I do like it without the hoop as my theme is more whimsical. I am wearing a flower crown.

The 2nd picture is the designers photo. It obviously has a hoop underneath it. To make it look more like a ball gown, but I also hear it makes it easier to walk in??

I think it looks good without the hoop. But you could be right about getting around easier with one.

I think it looks more flowy without a hoop/slip underneath.

Hoops are a pain to get around in, my fsil had on with her dress and it was a big pain to walk in. But it did give her dress the lovely volume. I'm putting one extra layer of tulle under my dress by using a slip. That may be a better option and it is so easy to move in.

The dress looks beautiful and more whimsical without the hoop skirt. I recently had to make the same decision about my dress and I decided against the hoop skirt/petticoat. I fell in love with my dress as is and when I add the extra underneath it didn't feel like the same dress. I suggest that you see if you can try on your dress with the hoop skirt and see how you feel, you may love it more with the hoop skirt or you may be like me and realize you fell in love with the dress as is and wouldn't change it Smiley smile

    1. I like the hoop, adds more structure I think but it's beautiful either way! Can you decide when you get it back, obviously the second one is a professional photo and fits her perfect, but do you NEED one? No.

    2. Is that an Allure?

I like it without the hoop, but what are the inner layers of your dress like? I was just thinking it looks like all that tulle might be the type of thing that would end up like getting stuck between your legs haha. I have a crinoline slip for my mermaid style dress, and I think they make dropped waist style ones as well. Bonus: mine's tight enough that it doubles as spanx hahaha

Not with a hoop. maybe a crinoline but no hoop.. I tried one with my dress and i looked like a bell swinging as i walked ( during a practice run) so i ripped the metal hoop out,.

I like it either way Smiley smile Ask your seamstress if they can do anything for you. For my gown, they are going to add the fullness to the actual gown so I don't have to wear a hoop! They are also adding boning and cups, so I don't have to wear a corset/bra!

It look looks more casual and flowy without the hoop. To keep it from going between your legs while walking wear a long slip. The slip will keep your dress from going between your legs without adding bulkiness or poof.

Thanks guys, I actually fell in love with the dress as is, without a hoop. So that is probably what I will do. I am just slightly worried about the dress going between my legs since it is tulle. But when the time comes for it to be altered I will talk to the seamstress and see what they can recommend without making my dress poofy. Hopefully a long slip will do the trick.

    THANKS GALS!!
