Do you think this hanging backdrop would look tacky with artificial leaves/flowers?

I found an image of this hanging backdrop at my wedding venue and I love it so much! Our budget is very small though and I know I can't afford one from a florist.

I am considering trying to make one myself, I think I am very crafty. I just want to hear people who have worked with artificial leaves and what their experience was.

Will this end up being not worth it? Will it look tacky? Are artificial leaves expensive? Any tips of opinions welcome!

Hi A! I think that this is so so beautiful! No one will know that the flowers are silk from where they are sitting, and if you like the way it looks, you should go for it! I do not think it will look tacky if its made well! Are you planning to make this your self?

I don't think it will look tacky at all! I made my garland for our arbor and I got so many compliments on it!

I am planning to do it myself! I am a bit of a McGuyver and crafter and I feel that with enough time I could really make something great. I just keep hearing that "fake leaves look like fake leaves", which is obviously a concern. If they are 7 feet in the air though I just cant imagine anyone will be able to see them that closely.

Hi A! I completely agree! If they are suspended in the air, I'm sure no one will notice! I think you should go for it!

I am team real flowers, but for a décor item that people won't be close enough to touch or smell, then I don't see an issue with it. I will forewarn you though that it can get expensive even with fake flowers, so I would first try to find something you like on FB Marketplace or other resale sites. Maybe even check with your venue to see if that particular piece was rented.

If you find good quality fake flowers it will look beautiful however the good quality one are more expensive. I created my own bouquets (one big bridal one, and 3 smaller bridesmaids) and the total was $160 just to give you an idea and they look so real. I bought a ton of flowers off of amazon and A.C Moore and returned what I didn't use so I would just look around and see what the costs are to give you an idea on how much you will be spending in the long run. But it is totally doable!

If you're a Costco member they have a fresh wedding garland for $80. You can get some flowers there to and add in and I guarantee it'll be less than what a florist would charge. Double check if you're allowed to install it yourself at your venue. My venue will allow an arch to be brought in with flowers and such, but to install something on their wall you have to be a licensed florist with a $1,000,000 insurance policy - not kidding

I don't think this is tacky at all, A, and I think you could recreate it quite easily with artificial leaves. Smiley smile Especially with Christmas approaching, I would look for sales and deals on garland-like greenery and fake flowers at craft stores. I can't tell, though: is it hanging from the window or is it hanging from the ceiling?

It's hanging from the ceiling with fishing line I believe. I never thought of after Christmas specials, that could be perfect! Especially just for filler leaves.

Girl, you got this. I would say, buy a bunch of different preserved eucalyptus for some green, less than $5 a bunch. Try to find hobby lobby deep clearance markdowns, use coupons! Evem if you buy just a bit of floral with every paycheck. Check some resale sites. Check the dollar store too! Also, Ive seen a lot of great flowers made with crepe paper/paper, maybe you can incorporate some in there too!
