Does anyone actually remember the proposal??

I'm hoping this isn't just me ... but I have absolutely no memory of the time of what happened after my FH pulled out the ring box from his suit jacket. The next thing I remember is him standing up saying my name. Aaaah! Haha we've been together for almost 5 years and he completely surprised me -...

Haha we've been together for almost 5 years and he completely surprised me - I've never been speechless before. And then after he brought me back I did manage to choke out a yes! But has this happened to anyone else? I feel kinda bad because I know that he was saying really nice things and he was down on one knee ...

I remember almost all of it! I run it through my head a lot so it'll stay up there!

I'm with most people here in regards to "blacking out" during the proposal. As soon as I realized what was happening. I just laughed. Don't know what he said. Don't recall him asking me to marry him. Don't even remember saying yes. Just laughed. A lot.

Mine was similar to @Corinne's in that he had been jokingly proposing for a while. So when he actually got down on one knee he said, "I know I asked you yesterday but will you marry me?" And then I looked down and he had the ring we had both agreed we liked and I was shocked! Apparently I didn't say yes right away...lol the first thing I remember saying was "I'm so surprised!" Lol he got me good.

Jessica and Corinne- me too!! We always talked about it and looked at rings MONTHS before, but we always just joked with each other that we were going to get married. He popped the question using a bandanna on our yorkie that said "Will you marry my dad?" By the time I read the bandanna and realized what was going on, I looked up and he was on one knee. I literally thought he was joking and expected to see a ring pop! hah! But to my surprise, he had the most beautiful rings ready for me. I remember asking him "IS THIS REAL?!?!" Makes me smile just thinking about it Smiley smile

I pretty much thought he was joking the entire time (we prank each other a lot) until he pulled out the ring. After that I remember saying "oh my God" about 999 times but otherwise I don't remember much of anything. Not even sure if I said "yes" but apparently I did..lol.

I only remember the phones coming out with their flashes on and opening thousands of boxes than opening the bottom one and it being a beer cap. And from there I just kind of kissed him. I didn't really say yes either, but he knew it was a yes Smiley smile

Mine is also a blur! I don't even remember saying yes. I remember the general idea of what he said, but not the exact words, and I'd like to think I did actually say yes because I remember him putting the ring on my finger, haha. I got so nervous and excited that I blocked everything!

I actually remember the details of the entire day! It was our third anniversary, so I was already really enjoying the day we had planned and making a point to remember everything that happened... I just didn't know that he had planned a little extra Smiley winking

I remember fairly clearly, but then again, it was a simple proposal just two months ago. FH fully maintained the element of surprise - as the only time marriage had ever come up in conversation previously was when he asked me to move in with him last August (I said no, I needed to be at least engaged first.)

I was in a bit of a daze because I'd just woken up from a nap after (getting cleaned up after) a day of skiing at Mammoth. FH cooked me dinner and woke me to let me know it was ready. I came out into the living room and we stood in front of the fireplace, and he said my first name. I reciprocated with saying his first name (still not seeing this coming), and that's where it gets a little fuzzy. I *think* he said something to the effect of wanting to see more of me and wanting to spend the rest of of his life with me, got down on one knee with a ring box in his hand, and asked me if I would marry him. I'm pretty sure that I responded poorly with something like, "I will...We should go to pre-marital counseling." Mind you, we've still never even had a fight - those were just the first words to come out of my mouth. My first reaction in my head was, "Wait...what?!" But I figured I should at least get "I will" out since the guy asked honestly not knowing whether I would accept his proposal.

    ----

Edited to shorten since this better belongs in the engagement stories thread since I typed it all out - sorry!

I was another one who proposed without actually knowing what the answer would be. We'd long since agreed that we wanted to be together for life. But same-sex marriage was new at that point, and the legal repercussions were unclear. (A lot of the legal benefits weren't there, plus it really had to be for life, since divorce was unavailable so long as our state didn't recognize same-sex marriage.) So I didn't want NotFroofy thinking that she had to marry me just to get me to stay with her. I was so nervous, I was acting strange, and she thought maybe I was mad at her about something. I finally sat down with her on the daybed of her office, and muttered something to the effect of, "So, what would you think of the idea of getting married?" Yep, not a terribly romantic proposal, but at least she said yes!

    I remember all the details!!

He had taken me to my favorite pizza place, was a perfect gentleman, dropped me off at my home & then he called me when he got to his place.

Now keep in mind, we had not even held hands or kissed yet!!

He blurted out over the phone "Where have you been all my life? Will You Marry Me?"

And this was just our third date!!

I blurted out a response "Can I have the rings I want?"

    He said "Sure, Baby."

I needed to slow things down bit, so told him to ask me at a later time because I wasn't ready to answer yet.

About 20 minutes later he asked me again!!

I then told him to ask me on another day.

We kept talking and when it was passed midnight he asked again, telling me it was another day.

He was so cute about it. I love his sense of humor!

I told him again that I would like to say yes, but just wasn't ready to say it yet.

Then I made a deal with him & he agreed.

I told him that when I was ready to say yes, I would ask him to marry me & give him a ring!

I started searching for a ring for him the next day & found a beautiful gold ring for him with a black star sapphire & a week later when we went to another pizza place & I asked him if he still wanted to marry me.

He nodded his head yes while saying YES YES YES with the biggest grin I have ever seen.

I put a ring box on the table, opened it & I asked him if he'd marry me.

    He immediately said YES Baby!!

I took his hand in mine & put his ring on his finger & we sat there holding hands and talking for what seemed like an eternity.

The restaurant closed up for the night, but the manager let us stay until they left to go home.

We were the only ones in the place & it was so romantic when they turned the lights down.

He took me to his apartment for the first time & then kissed me for the very first time.

I knew immediately that I had made a very good decision!!

We met online on a dating web site & have been together for over a year now & our lives are meshing together very well and we are working on an old house to make it our home.

This is a second marriage for both of us. We had both lost partners due to deaths 7 & 8 years ago.

The next day I had a lot of my friends & family start searching for my rings.

I had seen a set that I just fell in love with about 6 years ago.

An aunt of mine found them on eBay!! We got a great deal on them & he loves them too!!

I have a very fuzzy memory of the whole thing so thank god for video!

I always expected the full proposal speech but FH isn't the talker of the two of us. He did officially ask the question but I don't know if I heard anything once he went to one knee. I squeaked (yes, squeaked...video proof haha!) out "yes" before the waterworks started but a minute later wasn't sure I ever responded so I randomly blurted out "yes" again!

I knew it was going to be that time and place for about a month and a half. FH told me on our 5 yr anniversary that we were going to finally do the private workshop at the terrarium place. I had wanted to do it for a few years. Every time we discussed design he got nervous and insisted on a treasure box. He also had let it slip a few months before that he had a ring. A week before I let it slip that I knew and he successfully convinced me that it probably wasn't happening.

I remember the full proposal. The instructor took out the little figures for the terrarium and they were different than what FH and I discussed. When I turned around to ask him about them, he was on one knee and simply said "You were right. Will you marry me."

I remember it. He gave a great speech and showed me the ring, but didn't ask anything. So I told him he had to officially ask before I could say yes.

I don't actually remember what he said either. Something about princesses and castles (he proposed at Disney). I do vividly recall him having to give me the ring 3 times.

I was in complete shock as I had no idea it was coming (which is unusual for me, kudos to FH). I remember a few details, such as where we were and that we were supposed to be taking a picture together when he got down on one knee. I know I said "Are you serious?" a few times. After I finally said yes (at least I think I said yes) I told him he had to put the ring on my finger. Smiley tongue

Oh well, he remembers it at least, haha.
