Does anyone have any credible websites for buying a wedding dress from the U.S., China or elsewhere ?

Carretta, on August 18, 2012 at 1:34 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 24

I'm getting married March 2013 and is on a tight budget, but have my eye fixed on these 2 dresses that are too pricy for me right now. However, at the right price, I am willing to go out on the limb and purchase a comparable dress from overseas or anywhere in the US that's reasonable. So if anyone out there knows of a place or have any suggestions about what I should do, please let me know. Thanks.

Pearl's Place has the actual brand name dresses for less than most places.

Or check out the used dress sites:

Often, they even have new dresses for sale by brides who changed their minds or whose weddings were called off.

You could also look on Etsy. You may be pleasantly surprised. Check the wedding section, but also the vintage section.

Carretta, I would be careful, I have photographed hundreds of wedding that compromised on cheap chinese wedding dresses. They may look nice, but photographs an off color, many times white dresses from china photograph blue or green, Not very nice. The casting is blueish, pinkish or geenish in your end results.

Overseas isn't really an option -- there are more horror stories from Chinese knock off sites than there are success stories. Here's a post with links to different stories, pictures, etc. If the price is too good to be true, it is.

In addition to the links 2d shared, you can check out http://www.bestbridalprices.com/, they are legitimate sellers. Watch out for sample sales or trunk shows for that designer to see if you can get it off the rack for less. And when in doubt, Alfred Angelo and David's Bridal have a pretty good range of gowns that might work for you.

Also try www.houseofbrides.com (out of Chicagoland), or www.weddingshoppeinc.com (out of Minnesota) Both legit retailers.

I've odered cocktail dresses from www.lightinthebox.com and have been happy with the look and feel.

I still had my wedding gown from my first marriage..I bought it for $300..but you'd think it was worth over $1000. I couldknt find anyone to buy it for the price I asked for bec they kept asking me to lower the price to $200 ish..I thought..come on..the dress but they wanted it for almost nothing. It was a sz 4,,yes that's how tiny I was bk in 98. I ended up donating it to good will..

I got my dress from milanoo.com for $129.00! Its beautiful. Obviously, not a designer or super high quality, but its well put together, and I love it! You can buy it a few sizes big, or else they do custom fitting where you send them your exact measurements. Check them out, they really have some beautiful stuff!

@Mrs.E -- would you be willing to share pictures of the actual dress with us? If you're happy with it, that's all that matters, but people should know what they may actually get.

This bride wasn't happy with her Milanoo dress, she bought another from David's:

Another bride, they lost her order for a bit, and when it arrived the corset was crooked:

Just be aware of what you're getting, ladies.

I have to get a petticoat so I can actually take a picture in it, but I could take some pictures of it just hanging up so you get the idea of how it photographs. Aside from being wrinkled and needing to be tailored to fit my short height better, its in really beautiful shape. I will try to get some pics taken of it tonight when the man is sleeping Smiley smile

And the best part is...if you get it and DON'T like it, you just gotta go to the post office and ship it on back and get your money back in a couple weeks.

Thanks everyone, I greatly appreciate all your comments. I have mixed feelings about ordering from overseas. I just didn't like any of the dresses I tried on a certain local bridal locations. Please keep the suggestions coming.

I would never order a dress from China. However, I would order online. I guess you could call me a "label junkie" but I want couture just not at the couture price. I ordered online but from a reputable retailer.

I'm just going to say, it's very clear that some scammers are infiltrating. You have to find reviews from several sites, cause these scammers will do ANYTHING to get your money. They infiltrate through sites like these to get you to buy their stuff.

    -Good luck finding reliable sites!
