Does anyone know any Portuguese (European) Wedding Traditions?

Beka82, on July 23, 2015 at 10:29 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

My Fiancees' parents moved from the Azores when they were young and met in America. I wanted to honor them by adding some Portuguese traditions? I am already including some music with the DJ.

Thanks so much!

If you can get some from Portugal, you could serve Ginja de Obidos (or any Ginja) in chocolate cups. It's a sour cherry liquor that is absolutely amazing and only available in Portugal (but it's everywhere there).

Or serve port with dessert, or give them port during the toast?

How about your FH do a Portuguese song for the Mother/Son dance? I'm Portuguese and so if my FH. He is dancing to "Mae" by Jorge Ferreira.

You can also see about adding a Portuguese dish to the menu. You can never go wrong with Portuguese food! LOL

What island is your FH's parents from?

Also, if you change your avatar, you'll get more responses. Most people associate ring avatars with trolls.

Thank you so much E-Tex and Ruth! His mom came from Terceira and Faial! I was thinking of adding some Pastel De Nata and Queijadas to the dessert bar and possibly exchange them instead of having a cake.

If you REALLY wanted to honour them, you can consider doing a special message to them in portuguese, whether its in your speech, or on the program in a quote?

Just be careful, my MIL is from azores, and shes very particular on how portuguese should be spoken! LOL
