Does Anyone Use Another Wedding Website Discussion Board Like Weddingbee or The Knot? Do You Like it?

Mrs. Marissa, on March 10, 2011 at 9:03 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 15

I just subscribed not too long ago to other wedding websites, and to be honest - meh, I don't like. I don't understand people scratching their faces out of pictures, can someone explain that to me? Should I be scratching my face out of pics too, lol?

Anyhoo you can't beat the community on WW because you all are so helpful with your kind words and fun personalities, it's like i'm cheating on you guys if I log into another site, hehe. What do you think?

I know a few ladies on here that go back and forth -- but pretty much everyone says that the girls at the knot tend to be a tad....how shall i say this....b!tchy?

As far as scratching faces out of pictures -- if you have a stalker problem or work at a professional job where they monitor this kind of stuff it may be beneficial. I just make sure that my last name and FH's last name isn't on anything.

I was on The Knot and I started to get STRESSED out by all the posts. I started to think I was really going to mess up my wedding... then I found WW, WeddingBee and Offbeat Bride. Much better matches, and each has something different that I find a benefit in Smiley winking

Yes! i agree that some people are quite unfriendly but it is great to read through some of the threads, its just a tad overwhelming.

@Christina, Ahhh! Makes sense, but it still gives me the creeps, lol.

The knot is perfect if you are expecting to spending at the minimum $40,000 on a wedding. I haven't even bothered with their forums because I wasn't finding what I need. I did get my napkins from them and they were gorgeous!

I'm on all the boards. My view was that my best hope of maintaining sanity was to have a variety of sources. So when I got tired of dealing with the brides on The Knot whose idea of economizing was using Daddy's country club as the venue, I could go over to Offbeat Bride and discuss dumpster diving for dishes to use at the reception. And when I decided that the wedding on Offbeat Bride in which bride and groom were suspended off the floor by hooks in their chests for the ceremony was a bit too nontraditional for my tastes, I could go back to The Knot.

To my mind, the Knot is wonderful if you have a relatively esoteric question, and want to ask people in a similar situation. They have active boards for Jewish Weddings, Gay Weddings, and Second Weddings, for example. They have local boards that can be very helpful for getting information on, for example, who is the best alterations person in my area. They have a board for my month and year, so I could compare progress reports with other brides getting married about the same time I was.

However, the big international boards on The Knot are--how do I put this tactfully?--not for the faint of heart. The very size that makes The Knot able to have very active boards for a variety of types of weddings also means that it is really easy to ask an innocent question on one of the international boards, and have people piling on all day.

As for me? Well, I've tried to persuade people here that I am a bitchy old hag. However, I don't seem to be making much headway on that. ;-)

WeddingBee has some really great stuff! I never post there, but I browse the DIY all the time, found a really great makeup tutorial.

    I'm anti-Knot though :-)

Wedding Bee boards are full of angry hateful people that want to blame, punish, attack and ridicule you for your questions! Seriously avoid. The last thing we need as brides to be is more criticism! I am all about sharing and love and positivity! Lets lift eachother up not tear each other down!!

I cannot stand weddingbeee. The site is archaic and the topics are less about weddings and more about women who have dysfunctional relationships. The community is not supportive and very quick to judge. Try to offer constructive advice they jump all over you. This is why I detected to WeddingWire.

The only other website that I am aware of that is still functional is Reddit. Some of the information is helpful but an equal amount is not because many have no consideration for guests’ comfort.

I use Reddit and have lurked on WeddingBee, but I like here the best. The Knot does not have the forums on their app, so it's very annoying to access. On WeddingBee, I find most of the conversations there are not actually about weddings (there's more about parenting, TTC, people wondering why their bf hasn't proposed yet, etc.)
