Does lace on the veil have to be the same as the lace on your dress?

Amanda, on July 17, 2016 at 5:38 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

I want to get a lace-trim veil, sort of like a mantilla style veil. But the dress I ordered has a lace pattern on it that is unique and I can't find anything similar. Is it fine if the lace on the veil doesn't match the lace on the dress? Or is it supposed to match? I can probably order some extra lace but I feel like that's so complicated!

Sure it would be nice that everything was matching but unless you got one from the same designer or got lucky you probably won't get an exact match maybe something similar. I don't think it would matter personally besides I would say mostly everyone's eyes would be on you in the dress!! The fine details of your veil I don't think will get noticed as much as your dress. Good luck.

A picture of the dress and the veil you're considering would help a lot. It doesn't have to match completely, but it does have to look in harmony and to complement the dress.

No... but I'm a match freak so I just selected a veil without lace. I think it would take away from the lace on the back of my dress anyways. But no, It doesn't have to match... no one will be looking that closely.

This is the lace. Difficult to find something similar because most lace has roses on it.

What if you keep the veil simple without lace and embellishments?

@Spirit I thought about that, but when I bought the dress, I tried on a couple veils (one very simple with no embellishments and one with lace edging) and I really loved the look of the one with the lace.

Understandable, lace veils are love Smiley smile then I can see a veil with lace pattern trim, which will frame the delicate lace of the dress but not overwhelm it.

That depends on if you want it to. So in other words no, it doesn't need to. I just know from 12 years in retail some people are insane about things matching exactly, some are adamant that things are NOT identical matches, and some don't even notice or care. Which one are you? For me personally it's important that items I wear compliment and look good together, but I prefer not an exact match. I like it to look lik I found them separately and I put them together. Other people it's a whole 'nother story.

They don't have to match exactly, but I agree with @spirit that they need to harmonize together. Maybe a veil with flower lace trim?

Here's a screenshot from an etsy vendor that several brides here have has luck with. To me, 3 looks like it would match well.

ETA: Sorry it's such a crappy shot. The name of the shop is at the top if you'd like to look for yourself.

I got my veil from the above etsy vendor!! It doesn't match, but it's close. My dress has pewter lace on it - so I knew it would pretty much be impossible to match (no veils from the designer)

    Edited for spelling
