Does nobody rsvp anymore?

Madison, on August 18, 2021 at 7:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
Is anybody else having an issue getting their RSVP cards back? Our wedding is one month away, but our “cutoff” date for responding was last weekend. We set it fairly early knowing that people would be late mailing them back (all return envelopes are addressed and stamped - they just need to say yes or no and drop it off). Our caterer requires a final guess count 10 business days prior to the event.

I just never thought it would be this bad. We have received maybe 50% of the cards. Maybe. However we have had a few extended family members calling our parents instead and it’s making it hard to keep track. This is so frustrating! I’ve asked those who have called or texted me (now past the cutoff) to please mail it anyway because it’s easier and they keep saying they just threw it away because it was easier for them to do it this way.
Am I just being a brat about this? Haha. I can’t imagine taking an addressed and stamped envelope with a personalized card and deciding to throw it all away, knowing that somebody spent a lot of time and money making them/putting it all together!

From what I’ve heard, 50% response is pretty typical, unfortunately. Probably reach out to those you haven’t heard from and give them a specific date you need to know by. Some maybe be waiting to see what the conditions are with COVID.

There were several we had to chase down, right up until we gave our venue the final numbers. Many just texted the response even though we also gave them stamped envelopes.

I've honestly never heard of someone have 100% of RSVPs returned without issue, and I think one main reason is that people just forget that they haven't RSVPed and operate under the illusion they have.

I would also suspect that some people are a little hesitant to RSVP due to what is going on with the Delta variant running rampant around the world right now.

Don't be surprised if you have to chase up people after your due date for responses passes. Good luck!

You are definitely not being a brat about this and people are being lazy/rude. However you are making me really glad I went with online RSVPs! 2 months away and 80% have responded. If friends haven’t replied I just text then the link to harass them to do it.

Follow up! People may have to switch their schedules around, find a baby sitter if they have kids and don't plan on bringing their kids, may have to make up time or something, plan out any traveling involved, etc. It's not that they are saying no by not responding they just forget to get to it honestly! My friend and my cousin had to reach out to those who did not rsvp for their weddings. They were stressed out about it, but they also mentioned to their guests "please call or text me by the end of this week" type deal. Give them a final date to respond by because you are putting the last deposit on your final out or something. Creates that sense of emergency that they only have just a few more days to think about it. Smiley smile and another thing to consider is they could be debating and waiting to see what the statistics are due to COVID.

I'm definitely nervous about this, but we're planning on giving a few ways to RSVP, one the old fashioned way with the addressed & stamped cards, and through our website (providing link and a QR code). Hopefully we'll have a good response.

Out of 85 got 62 responses and deadline is September 9. My venue wants counts 3 weeks ahead. So I have a buffer of a week to contact the other 23 people if they don’t respond. They might be waiting because of COVID or who knows... responses are good so far.

Our deadline is September 15th and so far 73 out of the 162 we invited have RSVPed. We set up an online RSVP from our website and the most annoying thing is having to tell the many people who keep telling me "we're coming!" to RSVP so we can know their meal choice. They have some time so I'm trying to be patient and understanding lol.
