Does shapewear suck as much as it seems?

Rogue Bride, on May 21, 2013 at 9:03 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 27

I've never worn spanks, or bodywear, or a girdle or anything. This isn't because I'm skinny, but because I'm a slave to comfort. Not even gonna wear heels at my wedding.

Does shapewear make you really hot and uncomfortable? What about if you were outside during the summer?

I know it smoothes out the flab and THAT part really appeals to me, but not if I'm super uncomfortable the whole time.

I don't find it uncomfortable, but it does make me hot and I HATE being hot. I would personally try to find any way to avoid wearing it outside in the summer - that would be my own personal form of torture.

I find it very uncomfortable but sometimes it's worth it. Most of the time it's not.

I wore the assets long line in july I was not uncomfortable. It was an outdoor wedding. I made sure it was not too small because I always heard of people feeling cut in half by it. I just wanted it to squeeze me a little not sausage me.

I have used the older kind and i currently have a shaper, which is not the heavier material of yester-year.

I don't think the shaper is hot and uncomfortable. The hardest part for me is putting it on. That part is frustrating, because it SUCKS everything. After it's on... I had no problem.

But I'm considering getting another that maybe a little more uncomfortable bc it has boning.

Yes it does make you hot but I don't find it uncomfortable. Also just buy for what you're looking to "smooth"... aka no need to buy a "full boy" shapewear suit if its just your tummy area you're looking to slim down. I plan to wear Spanx on my wedding day... I am sure it will be hot but boy does it ever work! Smiley smile

Spanx are what I wear. While I don't wear them often, I will say that I pretty much forget I have them on at this point. Yes, they can be uncomfortable and hot, but I feel like it's worth how much they suck in! I've never worn them in really hot weather to give an opinion on that.

It's definitely not comfortable in the slightest LoL Depending on what it is you're going to wear, it's tight, usually not as breathable as advertised and somewhat (or very) restricting. Some things, like a full corset can be tolerable but it's usually the handmade, high quality ones that give the best support and are the most comfortable.

The one thing that I think is more uncomfortable than shape-wear is a strapless bra with an underwire...my ladies are rather big and by the end of the day, I feel like I'm being chopped in half! LoL Smiley winking

I like the results, but I don't dress to be comfortable so maybe I'm not the best person to answer lol

It does what it needs to do so I deal.

It isn't too bad. I usually dress for comfort too, but it's nice walking around knowing you look hot...

I wore spanx under my dress and it was uncomfortable, but it made me look so good. I don't usually wear them everyday but only on certain occasions.

Do spanx cover the thighs and stomach?

Can you eat while wearing one?

Edit: apparently they're not spelled "spanks", lol.

I gained some weight for about a year and I was happy in the winter but in the summer it was awful. Make sure it fits right. Trying it on can be a workout! I concur if you have back problems its good for your back.

I'm so glad that the wedding planning & stress has caused me to lose the weight! I feel like 'me' again.

It really depends on the brand and the amount of control you are wearing. I have a few Spanx pieces and I don't mind wearing them but they are only medium control. I have in the past put on a shaper brief that was absolutely torture. I should have known not to wear it as it took me 20 minutes just to put it on. LOL!

I hate the stuff. If you got the right dress, and get it tailored properly, you shouldn't need shapewear.

I am wearing a long line strapless bra with mine, which I've worn before, and it's not great but not horrible but I am used to wearing a corset as I'm a renaissance fair enthusiast.

I've worn spanx in the past for some dresses that I've owned. But, I'd rather be a little more comfortable than wear them again.

I feel like I'm being suffocated when I wear them.

Luckily, my wedding gown doesn't require me to wear spanx Smiley smile

I wear Spanx nearly all the time under dresses at work, and wore a heavy-duty one for my wedding. I am used to them, so I don't think they are uncomfortable. I much prefer the way I look with one on. They can be difficult to put on (especially when I shave my legs then moisturize - nearly imposible to pull them up then!). And when it's hot, I itch after I take it off. But, it's still worth it to me. I'm not one who dresses for comfort.

I've never worn spanx, but I've worn shapers underneath dresses and such when I needed some extra smoothing Smiley winking I think that they might be slightly uncomfortable because it's sucking you in, but in the end the look you've achieved is worth it!

Maybe if you're not used to it you should "practice" before your wedding. Wear some while you're out and about, and when it's hot, just to see what you think.

Some can be uncomfortable, but try them on in the store before getting and you can wear them just for the ceremony and pictures and then take off when you want to party
