Does the season you take engagement pictures in matter?

Melissa, on September 28, 2019 at 6:18 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 13
Hello!

Question about engagement pictures, seasons, and using the pictures for save the dates or invitations. Wedding date is 10/30/2020, and FH and I are doing engagement pictures in mid-October (so soon! I'm excited). Anyway, I wanted to do a formal fall-centric, psuedo-Halloween shoot with a pumpkin carved with our wedding date and with purple smoke coming out of it.

So if I did this theme, would I be able to put them on the invitations I'd be sending in may-ish? Would that be weird? Or should I put them on the save the dates I'll be sending in early November? Does the season you take engagement pictures in matter in deciding this?

I'm hand-making watercolored somethings as well and I'd like to use those for either invites or save the dates, depending on when I use the engagement pictures.

No i don’t think the season matters. It’s actually really cool that you’re taking them in fall with the Halloween theme and your actual wedding day is a day before Halloween (my birthday 🤗). lol I love fall! Have fun with your pictures!!

It definitely doesn't matter what season you take your photos! You're more than welcome do whatever you wish but me personally, I would use the engagement photos on the save the dates that are being sent early November so it still kind of matches the theme. I haven't seen too many invites with photos on them but that doesn't mean you still can't use them for the invites. I'm sure they'll look great no matter what you decide!

Generally, the photos are for the save the dates. If your event is more formal, no photo on the invites.

First, decide how formal you want your wedding to be. Invitations for a formal wedding are simple, engraved, and do not have pictures on them. Less formal dress, setting, and service, and thus less formal invitations, may have a picture. However, regardless of the formality of the event, Save the Dates are an informal communication and pictures are always fine. I think pictures taken in fall are fine to use for a wedding in fall, in either case, because you are "advertising" a coming event.

That'll be so cute! It won't matter though. You're going to have cute pictures.

It all just depends on what look you are going for or if you are using engagement photos on your save the dates.
We are getting married October 2020 and we are doing engagement photos this November

I don't think it matters but I do love the idea of a Halloween/Fall themed STD/invitation as it sort of set's the mood for your wedding. We took our engagement pictures at our wedding location one year from the date of our wedding and will be sending out STD's in October with our spring wedding date and engagement pictures.
