Doesn't Like Cats or Dogs - Red Flag or Deal Breaker?

Dealbreaker (unless he had allergies). Even if we have no pets, it was important to me that he liked animals.

I'm very skeptical about people who don't like animals. So deal breaker if they just don't like pets at all. If my husband had said on our first date that he didn't like pets or cats specifically (since I had one), there wouldn't have been a second date.

Thankfully, he loves them. But he does spoil the cats a bit.

My FH strongly disliked my cat at first (he doesn’t like cats), but after a year and a half of living under the same roof, they’re besties!

Idk if we’ll ever get a second cat, but at least we both like dogs. 🙂

Deal breaker. I LOOOOOVE animals. The same week my FH and I moved in together we brought home our first kitten. A month later, we got another. A year and a half later, we got another, and earlier this year we got our first dog! I couldn't imagine it any other way. We're have plans to start a small farm with all the applicable animals. I couldn't be with someone who doesn't like animals. If someone doesn't like animals, then they were definitely called out by one. Animals know people better than people do. Any person who doesn't like animals has probably been called out by one.

Yeah that's a deal breaker for me. I'm an animal lover and I have a beautiful doghter that I wouldn't give up for any relationship. That being said, my FH is more of an animal lover than I am and he has such a kind heart. We now have 4 rescues and I've told him we're at capacity... no more.

Deal Breaker. No way, couldn't do it. Must love pets, meaning cats and dogs in my book. I always have at least one each and couldn't live without them.

It would absolutely be a deal-breaker for me if my significant other didn't like cats or dogs (or most animals in general really). I love animals and I could never live without having pets for a long time. The longest I've been without a pet of some sort was a month, after my cat (17 year old, raised from 1 week after she was orphaned) passed away a few years ago. My fiance & I now have 4 cats together, and have every intention of adding 1-2 dogs when we buy a house in a couple years.

Deal Breaker - my pups are my kids, and if they didn't like someone I couldn't be with them. Dogs are a great judge in character. I remember the first few times I left FH alone with my furbabies, I was so nervous on if they would behave, or would he get frustrated with them but it all turned out well. One of my pups is now his 66 lb lap dog lol

Honestly, if they had a hang up about animals, we wouldn't have dated long. I've always had a rescue animal and it's my goal to continue doing that. So, yes, no animals would be a deal breaker.

Deal breaker if they don't like dogs. Even though I like cats, I get why lots don't, same reasons I don't personally want one. I should've left my ex inthe beginning when he told me he didn't like dogs

Red flag....we'd have to come to some sort of compromise. I am an animal person, luckily he's a dog person.

Doesn’t like dogs is a deal breaker. My dog is my child and we started premarital counseling, I told him that would be the one thing that I would call the marriage off for. My dog literally saved my life and if he can’t get on board with that then we can’t move forward.
