Dog as ring bearer?

Rochelle, on October 22, 2017 at 11:23 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 22

Has anyone had experience having their dog as their ring bearer? Pros/cons? (The dog would be walked by someone of course). This idea isn't set in stone but we have a fur baby we would like to have in our outdoor wedding and I was just wanting to brainstorm some ideas!

She would be 2 years old at the time of the wedding- husky- well behaved and trained).

Make sure you have someone take care of the pup and watch them that night. If you have someone on puppy duty all night for you (not at reception), I think it could be cute.

I couldn't do this. My dog gets too excited and overwhelmed by a lot of people, and she's 5. My mom's Husky is the same way.

There's so much that could go wrong, and it's just added stress on my wedding day. I've decided to hire a pet sitter, let her stay home, safe and happy.

Thanks HisBeauty! My FH was thinking the same! lol I'll just have to convince him to have us take some e-pics with her as an alternative

My four year old husky would be so distracted by the amount of people and potential rabbits/squirrels that it would be such a hassle to keep her moving. And what if she stops to use the bathroom on the way down the aisle.

And spring is shedding season. No way. Lol

Thanks AJ! Totally forgot about shedding season! She just finished up with that so I was getting used to petting her and not taking a chunk of fur with me in the process haha

My son (aka my husky) is extremely well behaved but I cannot have him as a ring bearer because my wedding is in August so the heat would not be healthy for him and since the ceremony and reception are in the same location (roughly 20 min away from home) it's not really feasible for someone to bring him back before the reception so he can be comfortable. I love my dog so much though so I definitely plan to take pictures with him beforehand and I want to make him a sign that says "dog of honor" lol

I would say no, because I wouldn't want some random person walking with my dog down the aisle lol. I think the pictures would be weird, unless it was someone else either someone in the BP or something.

We are considering this but leaning towards no becsuse ours us so excitable we fear that she will not behave well enough. we are definitely doing pro pictures with her beforehand though. then a pet sitting service will pick her up

Make sure your venue allows it. Some do not allow any animals except service animals.

There is a happy medium. We had someone bring our dog for some pictures, because we did a first look. Then she took him home and came back for the ceremony. It worked out really well. We knew the ceremony would be too stressful for him.

I did this for my first wedding! Luckily for me my MOH was a huge dog lover. I took my boy for a good long walk in the morning, and she walked him down the aisle. After the ceremony he was delivered to my parents' house and spent the day playing with their dogs. It was perfect! I'd do it again in a heartbeat if this wedding wasn't an hour from my home.

I really want my furbaby in the wedding but know she will be too hyper for the guest. I might change my mind bc she's a HUGE part of my life. Maybe for the ceromon y only?

I have no experience but I do want to say that if you do go ahead and do this, I am super jealous! It's my dream to have our furbabies in our ceremony, but since we will be getting married in a church, that's most likely not an option.

I say totally do it if it’s okay with the venue, someone will watch the dog, and your dog can handle a group of people. I know my husky mix LOVES people way too much and he would just walk up to everyone and try to have them pet him or he would try to sit in their laps (he’s the laziest husky mix ever).

Do it, that would be precious! If my dog wasn't as jumpy I would put him in my wedding

Our dog will be the ring bearer in our wedding. It's one of my FW's top 3 priorities. She's 12, a whippet, and the most low-key dog you've ever met. A friend will walk her down the aisle and since we are getting married outside in August, we made sure there was air conditioning in the building.
