Dogs as ring bearers

Gracie, on September 23, 2019 at 3:06 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 16
I'm wanting to have my two dogs as my ring bearers they love people and I don't have to worry about them making a mess in the church just trying to think of ways to keep them entertained during the wedding my fiancee and I were thinking of getting them squeaky toys for the event

We just went to a wedding where they had their dogs in the ceremony but after walking down the aisle they had someone come take them outside during the service. I think squeaky toys would be distracting.

Squeaky toys sound like a bad idea in my opinion. Sounds like a good way to get on everyone's nerves lol. Maybe non-squeaky toys or big bones they can gnaw on?

We are having our (technically mine, but we say ours lol) dog in our wedding as the ring bearer. After the ceremony my friends (BM) husband is bringing him back to the hotel. She offered. The room will be setup so all he will have to do is throw a treat into the crate & close the door.

As someone who just had dog flower girl, ring bearer, and usher I would say if you're having a rehearsal at the church make sure they're at it so that your wedding isn't their first time there. Make sure they've done their business before the ceremony but assign someone that can take them out if they need to (flower girl had to go pee during the ceremony!). After being walked down the aisle the ring bearer and usher sat with H's parents (they're his family's dogs) and flower girl sat with my parents (she's my family dog) so they were with people they knew. Overall they were well behaved and didn't cause a ruckus. If you want something to distract them I'd definitely go more the route of a kong or chewy bone than squeaky toy though.

my friend had her cat as the ring bearer. She doesn't live to far from the venue so she had a friend take the cat home before the reception during the cocktail hour

Both of our dogs will be in our wedding this weekend. They will walk down the aisle, then sit with my family (they stay with them often). We bought them each a new chew bone to have the day off to stay busy. My FH is also spending his morning playing with them to release some energy before the ceremony. If needed, we have a person ready to walk them away from the ceremony location

I would not want squeaky toys in a room during my wedding ceremony. I would assign someone to handle them during the day, bring them for the ceremony then take them outside after and home after pictures. Our dog was in our ceremony but she is really well behaved. She walked down the aisle on her own then napped in front of the bridesmaids until the end of the ceremony.

I would also not want small children around your dogs, especially not knowing if the kids are used to dogs or dogs are used to kids. Plus kids could be allergic to dogs. If I was a parent, I would not want my kids around dogs I didn't know super well.

The kids that are coming to the wedding have grown up around my dogs so this won't be anything new for them and I'm not worried about the noise of children and dogs playing my dogs already know everyone coming to the wedding my fiancee and I throw a lot of football parties so my dogs are used to being around a big crowd of screaming people lol not that anyone will be screaming

Squeaky toys may be loud during the ceremony, maybe get them a bone instead? But i love the idea of the dogs as the ring bearer.

I love that you are going to incorporate your dogs into your wedding!

Have you thought about perhaps hiring a sitter for your dog who would be able to take them for a walk during the ceremony? That was, you wouldn't have to worry about taking them out during your day, you have someone there already keeping an eye on them, making sure they are given food and regular water.
