Dogs In The Wedding!

Arlene, on September 7, 2021 at 8:53 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 2 6
Hi all!

Who has had their dogs in their wedding ceremony? I want our 2 dogs to be in the wedding ceremony as the flower girl and ring bearer. They are pretty well behaved and will do just about anything for a snack. Here are my questions:
1. What role did they play in the ceremony and what did they wear?2. Who, if anyone, walked them down the aisle?3. If nobody walked them down the aisle, how did you get them to come down the aisle themselves? Did you just call their names or did they need some edible coaxing?4. After the ceremony, did they stay for the reception?5. If they didn't stay for the reception, who took them home?
Thanks fellow wedding planners!!!Here are our two dogs!! Dogs In The Wedding! 1

We eloped to the Oregon coast and brought our dog along for the three day getaway. My wife and I made ourselves responsible for taking turns holding his leash during the ceremony. He escaped somewhere in the middle of the ceremony to say hi to strangers. It was cute and quite funny!

After the ceremony, he was off leash running around with us… which was even more adorable.

As for attire, we wanted the tuxedo harness but those are expensive (especially for our 3 hour elopement). There are a few of them on Etsy if you are interested in going that route. I ended up purchasing a white dress shirt for dogs on AliExpress ($8) and a bow tie ($3). His harness and leash combo was from a seller on Mercari ($15).

My biggest advice is to get your dogs familiar with the area prior to the wedding. And make sure that someone is being responsible for them throughout the ceremony so that potty breaks are taken beforehand! Oh and make sure your videographer/photographer gets clips of them!

I had my dog in the wedding.

You need to make sure that the reception place and venue is ok w/ dogs. For us, we were able to bring the pup in the ceremony, but not the reception. I had a local dog walker pick up our pup after pictures, and he brought them to the hotel (the receptionist had our hotel key & walked the dog walker up & then took the key).

I got his tux from a place on Etsy.

I had my junior bridal party walk him down the aisle.

We are having our dogs in our wedding, so I am loving this thread! My brother-in-law has volunteered to run our “girls” back to the house after the ceremony. I’m planning to have my junior bridesmaid and ring bearer responsible for them. Dogs In The Wedding! 6

Awwwwww congratulations! Your dog is cute as a button and looks so dapper in his shirt and tie! Thank you for the advice! I definitely need to iron out the logistics. I was thinking about having our dogs lay on a decorative cushion slightly behind my fiance and I during the ceremony.
