Dogs in wedding?

Kellie, on March 20, 2017 at 12:50 AM

My FH has requested our two dogs be a part of our wedding. I'm on the fence about it (& have lots of time to think it over lol) but would like to hear some experiences others have had with dogs being a part of a wedding

Both of my dogs will be in my wedding.. (just walking down the isle and pictures) both are very well mannered, used to loud noises and love love people! So I don't see a problem with it. Now if I had dogs who were scared of people and constantly barked.. I would say no not a good idea.

My dog will be in my wedding. His sitter (that cares for him regularly) will bring him about 30 minutes before the ceremony and take him home 30 minutes after the ceremony. He does fine in crowds and we do obedience training with him 3x per week.

Please don't. I'd be sneezing through your whole ceremony. Too much could go wrong.

We have had dozens of dogs in our ceremonies with no incident. It works best with a handler or sitter, but only you know his/her temperment.

My ceremony is outdoors, more people will have allergies to pollen than my dog

Mine was supposed to be, but he's not going to live long enough, unfortunately. I trained my dog since I got him last year to be great in crowds and not to get too distracted. I suggest going through training and seeing how well they do before you put that much pressure on them. My favorite part of training was taking my dog to some street fairs that were going on and he was a hit with the people. Give it a shot!

I went to one with a dog ring bearer, he was escorted by a groomsman. The venue was in a state park so dogs were fine. He went back to the cabin after the ceremony though, so they only needed him to be good for a few minutes.

The Grooms I love your dog so much for an animal I've never met. Frenchies are amazing.

Thank you all so much! I have much more insight now! Like I said I still have plenty of time to decided and train them more. If we don't add them to the ceremony I definitely want pictures of them with us at the wedding (FH and I joke that we love the dogs more than each other so it would be really special to have them there with us)

Our dog is in our wedding!!!! We are bringing him about an hour before the ceremony so he can unwind and get familiar with the space and area. He's very friendly and we are confident he won't want to leave his dads side

I think ideas like this can work with good planning!! We have a pug and all I wanted was for him to carry the rings down the aisle, but he's a tiny hyper pug so I don't think that's possible. We're planning on having him in the room and taking him out for photos and then having our planner take him back to our house or doggy day care for the rest of the night.

I love my dogs but I cannot imagine trying to force them to behave like humans and attend a wedding. As much as I love them, they are still animals. I also would consider my guests - what if they are allergic, afraid or simply do not like dogs?

Like others have said - depends on how the dog is and will just require some extra planning for the day of. Could always just include them in engagement pictures?

My service dog is going to be a part of my wedding, but he's a service dog, and trained very well. I guess it depends on your outlook regarding mistakes. If dogs making mistakes will make you laugh and your big day will be improved by their unpredictable antics, go for it! If you want things just so and are looking forward to a pristine ceremony, maybe not. Either way, make sure you and your partner communicate about where you both stand!

I think I asked a question similar to this in my early days of engagement lol

    Essentially:

    1. It's possible if your dogs are trainable and well behaved. You have time to train, or hire someone to train them.

    2. Keep in mind your guests, in case of allergies. Be sure to let them know so they can medicate or avoid..

    3. You should make sure whatever venue you pick is okay with your doggos being there.

My decision was made easily once my venue informed us that it's not pet-friendly lol

    ETA: words..

My dog was in my first wedding, he comes to events with me and is at home for parties all the time so I knew he would be fine in a crowd. It was seamless and wonderful. Logistically I can't make it happen this time, which makes me a little sad.

Unless you want to have everyone distracted by them and their panting from being nervous I would say no! I have three and they will be spending the day at home with my parents stopping by after the ceremony for a potty break
