Dogs in wedding?

My FH has requested our two dogs be a part of our wedding. I'm on the fence about it (& have lots of time to think it over lol) but would like to hear some experiences others have had with dogs being a part of a wedding

So my fiancé and I are planning to have my dog walk down the aisle, but unless your dog is really well behaved and isn't scared of crowds I wouldn't recommend it. We're still trying to work out all the details, but as of now the plan is to have one of the bridesmaids walk her down the aisle )since we have 7 bridesmaids and 6 groomsmen). After the wedding we will have someone pick her up and take her for the rest of the day. But I know my dog is super sweet and friendly and absolutely adores people so we feel like she can handle it. If you're not sure, then I wouldn't do it.

I would love to have our 2 huskies in our wedding but they wouldn't make it down the aisle without making sure they greeted everyone on the way down with hugs and kisses. So unfortunately they aren't going to be involved which is why we had them in our engagement photos instead!

FH wanted our dog to be included, but for so many reasons I disagreed. We now have two dogs so it would be even more complicated. I plan to include them in some of my engagement photos.

We will have our Shih Tzu named "Cora" in the wedding as a bridesmaid. She has her own matching pink dress. She will walk down the aisle with the Maid of Honor, which happens to LOVE dogs and our pup adores her. We are getting married outside at the local Botanical Gardens. They are pet friendly for the winter months, so Cora has been going to the venue location for three winters now. She is very familiar with the ceremony location and we have practiced the walk with her many times in the last couple months. Cora is not bothered by crowds and she is not a hyper dog and she is rarely barks. The Shih Tzu breed is hypoallergenic, so it will not cause our guests any allergy issues. They will have more trouble with the Spring blooms in the garden in May! Cora has been to obedience training and has been in local dog fair competitions, so she is used to large crowds and many distractions. She knows her key words to obey. The only thing I've questioned we may have trouble with is her being hesitant to walk on the rose petals. LOL she will try to walk around them! I have two boxes of fake petals I borrowed from a friend to train her its ok to walk ON them. Our venue has agreed to allow Cora be inside the reception building, but we will have her sitter take her home during the cocktail hour. Here is Cora in her dress...(she will be freshly groomed and a cute bow in her top knot for the ceremony). She loves wearing clothing!

For a casual outdoor wedding, I think it's cute as long as the dog is well-trained. If you want the dog to be part of your special day but don't want to deal with not knowing how he or she will react in the crowds, you could hire a pet sitter and have them bring the dog in just for photos and such for an hour or so.

I'm having my dog in the wedding (he's 67 lbs.) as the ring bearer. My teenage brother will be walking him down the aisle. I think it's your wedding, so you should do what makes you happy. Our dog has been a huge part of our relationship-he was in our engagement shoot-and we couldn't imagine not having him there with us. He gets excited easily, but we don't mind.

My dog is going to be in our wedding. He's well-trained, but I do worry about him possibly jumping. We did some dog training sessions and are working on it. We also hired a dog walker/handler for the ceremony because we don't want to inconvenience anyone. She will watch him if he acts out before/during the ceremony and transport him to the dog sitter. My BIL will walk him down the aisle because he's experienced with dogs. We met with the dog handler and dog sitter because we wanted to make sure we trusted both, since we don't live near the venue.

I've been going back on forth on this. I'd love for her to be there at the very least for pictures and would love to have my nephew walk down the aisle with her, but haven't thought about when she would get to the venue, etc, and I don't want her to be stressed. She is good with people and kids and good in crowds, but you just never know.

My other concern is that she is a shedder so we would definitely need a roller for FH's suit because she likes to rub against you. Either way, she will be at the dog sitters that night so I am thinking about asking if they could possibly pick her up from the venue to at least have her for some pictures and not have anyone need to leave.

I think its best to use your pooch for photos. As many others have said many things that can go wrong its best to have your pooch in the pictures or video and then have someone watch them till you get back from a honeymoon. the less stressed they are the less stressed you are but its ok to include them in something you could do just as easily as sitting on the couch and taking a selfie. they are family but its important to keep them safe and everyone else safe.
