Doing a Cleanse Two Weeks Before Wedding

PrettyinPink, on March 16, 2018 at 7:53 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 1 15

I really want to do a cleanse/detox before the wedding. I just want to lose some of this bloat from poor stress eating the past couple of months and just feel overall better. I know I won't lose a significant amount of weight (not my intention), but I just feel icky. However, my dress is pretty fitted, a trumpet, and I just don't want it to fit poorly on my wedding day if I end up losing some weight. My wedding is March 31st and again I know I probably won't lose much at all...but does anyone think this might do more harm than good? My dress is already done with alterations and in my possession - I still feel pretty in the dress but I cannot get over this bloat. I know I'm really waiting until last minute, but I've been eating like crazy! I just want to detoxify myself.

I mean can I lose enough bloat where my dress won't fit me properly anymore?

I'm not just referring to an actual cleanse, but drinking tons of water, really watching what I eat, etc.

I wouldn’t. It can affect your electrolyte levels and cause other issues. Maybe do it after the wedding but I wouldn’t do anything out of the ordinary this close to your wedding.

I think you’ll be fine if you drink lots of water and eat healthy foods. I’ve done this the last two weeks with weight work outs and I feel great and healthy. I didn’t do anything out of the ordinary so I don’t consider water and healthy eating a cleanse though. Its great for your body though and should get rid of some bloat without drastically changing your figure/fit of the dress.

If you have never done a cleanse, I wouldn't start now. I do juice cleanses every 8 weeks. While they are phenomenal for me and I have great results, I would not do one right before my wedding for the first time.

I would, however, just drink tons of water and cut the sugar for the next two weeks. Cutting out the sugared drinks (soda!), cookies, cakes, etc. will cut the bloat down drastically.

Maybe a whole30? I do it all the time and I feel fantastic!! Cutting out bread and sugar and milk at least will help with the bloat and shouldn't put you over.

This could backfire on you and make you feel more wiped out instead of less "icky".

Why not drink lemon water before, during, and after some sauna time and exercising?

I think drinking more water and adding in some fruits and vegetables is fine but I wouldn’t do anything drastic! You just never know what kind of effect it could have on your energy levels and digestive system.

I think if you make an effort to eat super healthy and drink lots of water that will be the best thing. Avoid sugar and simple carbs (white bread, pasta, etc) will make a big difference. Also dairy products make a lot of people bloated. Stick to proteins, veggies, and whole grains and I think you will see the difference you are looking for and feel great.

I guess I used the word cleanse wrong and detox. I wanted to put quotations around them both but didn’t. I meant cleanse not like a juice cleanses but more so cleanse myself of unhealthy eating. It’s sad, but for me eating veggies and stuff is a cleanse. My main question was asking if it would impact the way my dress fit me. I think everyone had great advice. It could backfire.

I will do loads of that. I already exercise. Just bad diet which is important. I’m just worried it will impact the way my dress fits. But, what can two weeks really do?

When I was on a restricted diet for medical reasons, just cutting sugar, gluten, dairy, and anything processed made me lose 10lbs in 1 week. My stomach wss never flatter! I don't recommend THAT for you but drop the processed foods and sugar and that alone will help... but you might be hangry lol

I’ll probably just eat super healthy. (keep asking so I’m sorry) is this going to make my dress too big on me? Even the bloat going down?

I think you're too close to the wedding to try this now - what if you react poorly and get sick??

Instead of doing a full juice cleanse, up your water consumption daily and make fruit/veggie smoothies for breakfast or a snack. You still get all of the fiber and other good stuff from the fruits this way, rather than stripping them out in a juicer. I do love my kale and frozen fruit smoothies when it's warmer, I just feel better starting the day with lighter but healthier foods.

I also had a fitted trumpet dress. I did eat a bit healthier in the last couple weeks, but I lose inches very slowly, so it wasn’t a huge problem. The biggest issue with a trumpet is the belly and the hips - if those are places you tend to lose bloat, and you think you will lose something with whatever you’re doing, it may need to get slightly altered. I needed some slight alterations two days before and they were done in time, so that may also be an option for you.
