Doing my own makeup

Allison, on August 5, 2019 at 4:29 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 10
I’m doing my own make up because I don’t want to look over done. My fiancé prefers no makeup, so I decided against a make up artist. Of course it’s in 5 days and I’m freaking out that it’ll look washed out and maybe I do need a professional. Any ideas / advice?

I did my own makeup and I think I did a pretty good job! Just make sure to practice ahead of time. I use all Mary Kay products because it’s the only thing that doesn’t make me break out lol, but here’s what I wore:

Face: primer, matte foundation, a layer of concealer on top, then blush, then setting powder over my whole face.

Eyes: neutral-colored (but shiny) cream eyeshadow (on my whole eyelid up to my eyebrows), then a brown powder eyeshadow which I applied to the outer half of my lids, then a shiny rose gold powder which I applied to the inner half of my lids (and blended in the middle of course). Liquid eyeliner on top lid only (I have super sensitive eyes and they often turn red and start burning if I put anything on the bottom too close to my eye so I wasn’t risking that) and mascara.

Lips: just a long-lasting light pink shade. Simple. Smiley smile

Here’s another pic where you can see it pretty well with my eyes open too.

I'd do 1-3 trial run throughs to see if you like your look!

You could go to a nearby Ulta if you are now considering someone else doing it. There is time for a trial and they are very reasonably priced. I have used them to do my makeup for events (i.e. engagement photos) and they killed it.

Use good quality makeup. I would use a tinted moisturizer, light blush, under eye brightener, light eyeshadow and natural eyeliner/mascara. A soft lip would make the look!

Hey Allison, you got this! Another thing to add is to make sure you know what kind of foundation works for you. If you have oily skin or dry skin or a combination, make sure to know what primer and foundation are good for you. You got this! Good luck!

If you do decide on make-up, just do a minimal amount that you would feel comfortable and beautiful with.

I'm doing my own makeup too, but I am used to doing it every day and have been trying different products and techniques over the last few weeks. Maybe you could take a night and just play around with a few looks. Do you have anyone in your wedding party to help give you a natural look?

Thanks everyone for all of your input. I went to ultra today, but no one was around to help. I’m going to the mall tonight and see if I can get someone from Sephora tosuggest things. Crossing fingers.

Good news all...I went to sephora, got some color matchers and tips for application. I came home and tried it myself. Perfect. Balanced and not overdone. Thanks for all the advice!!
