Doing Own Wedding Makeup

Gabriela, on August 29, 2019 at 1:51 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 1 12
Has anyone done their own wedding makeup and not regretted it? I don’t do my makeup everyday. When I do, it’s usually foundation, concealer, bronzer and blush, mascara too. Since I don’t wear a lot of make up on a daily basis, I feel almost self conscious when I’ve had my makeup done, because I know I’m wearing more than normal. I feel like I don’t look like myself. I went to friends wedding who doesn’t usually wear makeup either, and when I first saw her walking down the aisle, my forest impression was “wow she looks different.” She looked great, and her makeup looked good, but I first noticed how she didn’t look like herself. I don’t want that to happen to me. I have a cousin who has done my makeup, but she’s a bridesmaid, and I also don’t want to put that pressure on her. I just am picky about how people do my eyebrows, on top of other stuff. I’ve been doing research, about products to use for flash photography. I just want to look like myself, but more polished.

It sounds like doing your own makeup is the best route for you. You can hire makeup artists for lessons if you just want to learn more about products and application, otherwise just do some trials on yourself and discover what products work best for you {and be sure to do your research on what products are best for flash photography}. I'm sure you'll look lovely on your big day!

I'll be doing my own make-up. I'm not that great, but like you, I really don't wear much at since I've gotten older. The lost I wear these days are blush, contour, mascara and lipstick. I haven't worn foundation in months (mostly because of the summer heat but I've gotten so used to my skin without I actually prefer no foundation now) or eyeliner since middle school. I want to feel like myself too and I know wearing more makeup than that won't feel like myself.

However, with that said, I'm not opposed to having a makeup artist do my makeup for me- what I do now- but better. If I could afford it, I probably would, but I'll just practice!

I'm doing my own make-up and have spent the last few months trying different products and techniques to figure out what works best for me. It doesn't look like you have that much time to do that, but it can still be done. Maybe have your bridesmaid come over for a fun night and play around with different looks together. She might have tips and will be there when you're applying on the day of to help guide you while she works on her own.

I'm still on the fence for getting my makeup done or doing it myself. What products have you found that work best for you? Specifically in the drug-store price category Smiley xd

That's all I buy!!!! I like a lot of ELF products but found that Revlon Colorstay and Maybelline Stay 24 are the best lip stains. I found a mascara I really like on Amazon called MadLash (though I do have fake lashed I'm planning to try out) and bought an eye primer called something like Millani. I found a color pallette I love by CoverGirl and trust me, the eye primer helps!! I am also using a lotion by Eucerin that is green to temper the redness in my face and has sunblock. I bought a powered foundation from Etherealle on Etsy that I really like too. I think my contour stick is also Maybelline but those are mostly similar in my fairly recent experience. I have a setting spray, but bought a setting powder from ELF since my nose tries to get shiny. Oh, and speaking of shiny, I live for my rice paper blotters!

Don't get me wrong, I probably spent as much going through 10 different stains as I would have if I had just gone out to buy Lipsense like others recommended but $40 for one piece of make-up was a little insane to me. Now I have lots of extras in slightly different shades.

It sounds like you wear a decent amount on a semi regular basis, so I wouldn't worry about not looking like yourself. To me, it sounds like a good option for you would be to do a bold lip and simple eyes. Something like a bright red, and then just mascara and eyeliner and face makeup.

Ive been trying different products and techniques too. That’s the only reason I recently added bronzer and blush to my makeup routine. I usually only wear makeup a couple times a month, but have been trying to practice more. The few times I experimented with eyeshadow, I’ve actually been impressed with the outcome. I want a really neutral eye, with only tan and light brown colors. And yes, I will definitely seek guidance from my cousin.

I only put on makeup about 2-3 times a month. I really wanted to do a bold lip, but then I decided I want something close to my natural lip color. That way if it starts to fade it won’t be as noticeable, and I won’t have to worry about the way it looks if it does fade.

Yes, another reason I don’t want to go with a professional is the cost! And if I wanted a really an elaborate and bold eye, with the contouring and everything, then the cost might be worth it. My main concern for my wedding day is hiding my acne scars, which I have learned to cover myself fairly well by doing my own research about color correcting and concealing.

I find that vitamin e oil after toner and before moisturizer really helped fade my acne scars. Also, exfoliating helps too, not only with that but also with smoother makeup application.
