My receptionist is getting married on Saturday and asked if she could leave early today to run some errands and I said yes of course. She calls me 10 minutes after she left almost in tears saying "I don't have a marriage license and thought the officiant did that for us". I gave her the information and said she had to go today so she can pick it up tomorrow. Just a warning for everyone who is overwhelmed with the last minute details - Don't forget your Marriage License!!!!

@Jennifer.....I just looked at that site again. Are you living with your FS because the link says that you can only have your officiant do your license if you are living together? Just looking out for you :-)

It's so crazy seeing how every place is different! I'm kind of fascinated. lol

The husband and I had ours in less than 30 minutes not including driving time and we got married in Texas. lol. All we had to do is show our license and passport or birth certificate and they did everything right then and there, we verified it and then had it in our hands within minutes. They say it can take up to 72 hours but we had no problems.

Florida marriage licenses cost approx. $95 (varies a little bit by county). There is a 3-day waiting period for residents, but no waiting period for non-residents. License must be used within 60 days. Must be returned to issuing courthouse within 10 days of wedding. Witnesses are optional.

Just to add to what Nancy said, for the Florida license - IF YOU ARE A FLORIDA RESIDENT - you can reduce the price of the license (by about $30) if you do premarital counseling/classes.

We weren't residents, so we had to pay the full ~$95. Our officiant (a pastor) returned the license for us the following Monday, via mail, I had our certified copy in-hand, in-the-mail, in Virginia about 10 days later.

It's $78 dollars where we are and a 3 day waiting period. We had to show ID to get the license and sign a form. However, there is no place for us to sign ON the marriage license. Just the Judge's signature and someone notarizing his signature. I thought it VERY, VERY strange that we don't sign the license. In England, the signing of the license is actually part of the ceremony.

It's $70 here in SC. And the site states if you are between 18 - 25, you have to show ID but doesn't say anything else about ID if you are over 25. I find it very strange that you don't have to show ID to get a license.

A confidential License is just what it sounds like. Confidential. It usually costs more, but then no one but you and the groom can get a copy of it. It's not made public. You also don't have to have a witness to the ceremony for the confidential license.

Some officiants are able to provide the license. Please check in your area, and with your officiant. MOST DO NOT DO THIS! Fee's vary from county to county, and requirements as well. MOST States don't require proof of the officiants ability to legally marry, but there are some that do require the Officiant to be registered with them... About 6 months before the wedding, Check into local laws, requirements, etc. That usually gives you enough time to meet the requirements. If you have other questions, email me at **************@*****.***...

Luckily there's no waiting period in Virginia... my FH lives out of state so we're going to have to get the license 2 days before the wedding because it's the first weekday he'll be here! Makes me nervous, but there's nothing really we can do!

Yep, $78 here in Texas, must be 72 hours before the wedding but no more than 30 days. When we reached 28 days we went and got it so it would be one less thing to worry about. All we had to show were our ID's, raise our right hands and swear that we were not related or currently married and BAM! We got it.

I live in VA but am getting married in MD. VA requires both parties to be present I believe, but thankfully MD doesn't so I don't have to take time off work to get ours. The office is only open until 4:30 and is more than an hour away. I don't get much vacation time, so it's nice to not have to use it for that. There is a waiting period with MD though, so I'll have to make sure FS does it in the right time frame.

Here in michigan its 3 days and cost 22 i believe, and if we both go to get it we can ask a judge to waive 3 day waiting period....
