Don't wear wedding rings on your honeymoon?

MrsReed, on October 25, 2013 at 11:01 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 46

I remember seeing post early in my planning where ladies talked about what alternative ring they planned on wedding on their honeymoon.

Am I not supposed to wear my ring to Punta Cana? Should I leave it at home in the states while away? Should I be worried IF I do bring it with me??

H took his band with him and I took my wedding band with me, but left my ering at home. We locked both of our bands in the safe anytime we took them off and had no problems

My ering has my grandmother's stone in it, so its not replaceable, I wasn't willing to risk that.

Most everyone else we saw all had their bands, and I didn't hear of any problems. We were in Jamaica

Me too @Megan! lol That's why I wanted to make sure there wasn't some "secret" as to why I shouldn't lol

@Rachel - so it was mainly due to not wanting to risk losing the ring right?

We plan on spending most of the time on the resort, and I doubt we'll have anyone try and steal them off our hands there.

My co-worker is from Jamaica, and when that was one of our options for honeymooning, he told me that if we go off the resort, to NOT wear our rings or ANY jeweler. He said thieves wont ask you politely for them, they'll just take your hand. He could just have been trying to scare me and might be super paranoid though.....

Yeah I am wearing mine. It'll be locked in the safe in the room whenever we are at the pool or beach though. I don't want to looose it!

We're going to a resort as well and FH made it clear that he does not want to leave the grounds lol. I'm afraid to leave it in the safe in our suite...

And stealing them. If we were to leave the resorts (which we didnt) we would have taken them off.

@Amy - I think that will be my plan as well. I don't want to take mine off!

@Rachel - Got it. Were you concerned at the airport when you arrived, or do you think you would have been had you worn your ring? I think I'll be fine, I just don't want to be ignorant about it ya know?

We traveled to Italy for our honeymoon; we went to Venice and Rome...I never once considered taking them off and leaving them at home.

In addition to my diamond engagement ring and diamond wedding band, I was also wearing my new diamond studs that my husband gave me as a wedding gift. No one bothered me and there was only one instance where I felt a little weirded out on a very tightly crowded bus, so I flipped the rings over on my finger, with the diamonds in my hand, so they just looked like plain old silver rings.

If you are worried about losing them, get them insured; but you should do that anyway. Smiley winking

For certain countries (yes, like jamaica or parts of mexico) if you leave the resort they recommend taking them off for safety reasons.

if they don't fit well, just be careful when wearing them in the pool or ocean

I'll probably take mine off when I'm in the ocean but that's just because I have a real penchant for loosing/breaking things.

@Ottawa -- Have you ever been to Africa? PLEASE DONT TAKE THEM THERE

I left everything at home when I went to Africa and I am so glad I did. Especially if you are going to shady places, please leave valuables at home. Africa shady is NOT the same as American shady - it is far more extreme

I wore mine on the ship but took it off in the cities because the embassy warns against it in Nassau and other cities where crime happens often and the population is poor.

I wore both E-ring and band to our honeymoon in DR with no problems and we left the resort for our excursions. The only time I took my rings of is for showers and going to bed so I place them in the safe. DH had to get a mock wedding band while away because his actual band was 1 size too big and he did not want to lose it but other than that we were completely fine.

I have a matching black tungsten ring to H which I wore on our Ireland honeymoon. I left my band and ring in a safe at my parents’ house. It sucked because people who found out we were on our honeymoon would immediately look at my left hand and I have this boyish band on. But H and I both agreed it was best if I left it just because I have a tendency to lose things. Lost a pillow and one of my favorite sweaters on our trip! It’s all personal preference. As most ladies said, I think you would be fine wearing it.

Wore mine the whole time...no problems. DH took his off occasionally in water because it apparently is slightly too big and he was having issues keeping it on while wet.

I might not take my e-ring on the honeymoon and wear just the band. But more for convenience sake than anything else.
