Today my fiancé and I were talking cake and he said "you know, l'd love a good donut". I've seen 800 donut instead of cake ideas on Pinterest and told him I'd call our favorite donut shop for pricing. It's trendy, it's fun, it's a little unique. I was shocked to see the price difference.
$3.50 per serving for cake vs. $0.80 per donut.
When I called my mom to tell her of my bargain, she was less than thrilled. Claiming guests EXPECT a piece of cake. If I'm trying to throw an elegant country wedding, why would I serve donuts? If she went to a wedding with donuts, she'd think it was the cheap way out and that guests are going to remember that we didn't serve them a good piece of cake before they notice the table arrangements that could be upgraded with the savings.
Personally, I can't tell you one cake I DO remember from a wedding, so I'm not seeing the problem with this. Is it tacky? Is my mom right? Do i just get the normal cake expected?
