There are a lot of discussions I've seen surrounding double barrel last names, but I still find myself a little confused. I would like to change my name after our wedding to First Middle Maiden Married, no hyphen, for my legal name. I plan to go by FH name socially, but I would like the legal tie to my maiden name as being in my 30's I have built quite a bit of adult life around my current name. It seems prudent to keep that tie. I used to work in banking and the rule there was that hyphenated named you had to have identification matching exactly, but non-hyphenated could have supporting ID with just one name. Does anyone have any insight if this is a rule in other legal areas? And if North Carolina allows for non-hyphenated names? I've tried to contact the register of deeds in the county we'll marry but I haven't gotten a response yet. Any help and insight welcomed!
