Double booked venue

Jenna, on July 26, 2017 at 12:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

FW and I have had such an easy time wedding planning until now. We got a call yesterday that they double booked our venue and since the other couple booked before us we have to change our date! Luckily they still have Saturdays available and they're giving us an upgrade and a really nice discount, but we've been on the phone with our vendors and BP constantly trying to find a new date. Unfortunately our DJ is not available on our new date, so we have to start over there, but we have plenty of time. I still can't believe this happened!

This is why I need a break from WW. How common is this? I'm sorry OP! It looks like you're handling it well, what a nightmare though! Can we start a thread of things that went perfectly well?

Oh my goodness!! I would flip! You sound level headed about this though. Are your other vendors able to change to your new date? did you have a honeymoon booked?

I would review your contract. If their error costs you money, they should pay it.

    What a nightmare!

Just out of curiosity, are venues required to compensate for the couple's time, effort and money?

OP, hope you are able to find a good DJ and finalize other arrangements.

Honestly, I would make my venue pay me the cost of any deposits I lost due to their mistake.

They are paying for cancellation on the DJ. Luckily all my other vendors and my ceremony venue didn't charge me for moving the date. Ultimately it's working out, but still very stressful! They even offered to buy new save the dates and anything else I had ordered, but I haven't gotten that far yet. I'm just glad we found out now and not a couple months out!

With everything computerized in this day and age, how can a venue accidentally "double book'? Sounds fishy to me.

Sorry this happened OP but I am also glad to read how they are taking ownership with the things they are offering (new ST's etc.) Some of the vendor stories I read on WW are outrageous so this is a nice one to read.

OP! That is horrible, I would be frustrated to no end. Buti also do not see how this happened. BUT in the end, atleast they are doing the right thing of helping you out.

Thanks heaven you found out this far out!!, a friend of mine found out their venue double booked the salon 5 days before!!, and only because the other couple went to pay for a 2 hour extension and they saw it there!!, the venue ended up paying for a new location, that since it was all inclusive and didn't let you bring a thing, they had to pay for it all because they lost their deposits with the other vendors they were going to use

This same thing just happened to my FH and I. We signed our contract for May 30, 2020 in which she had available for our venue for the ceremony and reception. Once we signed the contact, I started calling vendors to get taste testing set up and to see who was available for that date next year. Believe it or not, this far in advance, I'm having problems getting everything to book on the same date. Before we booked with her, we were on our way to look at the venue when she called and told me someone booked our first original date of June 6, 2020. We decided to go look at it anyway and she told me May 30 was available so we booked it and put down our deposit and signed the contract. Yesterday she said her computer file didn't pull something over when she did her available dates so it missed the other wedding on the May 30 date. If we move it the 23rd, which is memorial day weekend, they usually charge a holiday upcharge. They wont charge us that now and will offer to be my coordinator day of wedding and to get the vendors together. I told her I didn't need help with the vendors as that is already something I've taken care of. I feel that due to all the stress of me calling all vendors to switch dates, she should offer us a discount on our venue rental fee (and not charge the holiday upcharge of course, which they aren't) especially since I can't use her help with the vendors on the tastings and hiring them. Am I wrong?
