Downtown Parking

MK, on April 29, 2021 at 10:12 AM Posted in Planning 0 4

Our wedding venue is right in the middle of the city, downtown. We have a small parking lot onsite where we are allotted 10 parking spots. We want to save those spots for our grandparents and elder guests. There is a safe and monitored public parking lot about a block from our venue - it's maybe a 5 minute walk, along with several parking garages and street parking. Is that something we need to plan and pay for? We are only having about 75 people at our wedding, a good portion of that is our wedding party who will have carpooled together and parked at the hotel we've all booked rooms at for the night.

My MOH says no, and that people will find parking all around. We are 'hitting the town' right after our send off, so we will be all over downtown after the wedding. Most of our other guests have booked hotel rooms downtown as well, and many have said they will probably park at their hotel and uber to our venue if it isn't close enough to just walk.

Is it rude to not block off spots in the parking lot? How should I go about knowing how many spots to plan for if I do prepaid parking?

I think reserving spots for immediate family and bridal party is plenty. If you have a wedding website, list 3 or 4 of the parking lots/garages so people don't have to drive around to try and find something. But don't feel obligated to pay for everyone's parking!

Maybe you could put something on your wedding website about parking? Do you think maybe you might have to reserve some for your vendors perhaps? Depending on what city you’re located in, and depending on if there are any events going on that weekend, parking may get filled up pretty quickly and may result in your guests having to walk far. Is it a safe city or would there be issues with them walking back to their cars at night? If all of these things seem OK then I’d say I’m sure your guests will be alright. If it’s questionable then I’d say you might want to rent some spaces for them
