Draping Fabric?

Rebecca, on June 9, 2017 at 11:08 PM Posted in Style and Décor 2 18

I see a lot of pictures with this type of draping and I hear that chiffon, organza or tulle would work but what would be best?

That would be of those things I would hire a professional to do.

Tulle is a stiffer fabric. I would go with either chiffon or organza

Thank you! We are very creative and just don't have a professional in the budget.. but these are just some ideas they do have such beautiful options for receptions I'm sure would be easier us. The event center is huge but kind of boring.

This is way more expensive to DIY than you think. All that fabric is going to be stupid expensive, and any PVC pipe frame you need won't be cheap either, and will be a PITA to put together.

Honestly, if you're on too tight of a budget to hire someone to do it, you're probably on too tight of a budget to have it at all. DIY isn't going to save you much money here. This should also be one of the last things on your priority list; I'd totally side-eye a reception serving a cheap meal, with expensive pipe and drape.

We actually have all of the big stuff. And we have upgraded the meal plan more than we were expecting. I would just like it to look nice. Lots of people say organza or chiffon so I think I will go with that! Thanks!

This will take you longer than you think, it will cost you more than you expect, and your venue may not even let you do this without insurance for the people doing it. The tent ceiling is not random fabric; it is a liner and you probably need a cherry picker to put it up.

    Hire a pro.

I did something similar, we used organza, and while it looked nice I wish I had done chiffon! We ended up with organza because it was cheaper than chiffon but chiffon is way prettier and I kind of wish we had splurged on that instead, or perhaps just skipped it altogether. Either way, it is much more expensive than I would have thought. We had our DOC set it up. But now we have a bunch of fabric in the garage and we're not sure what to do with it lol. Organza is much more sheer than I expected it to be, tulle is very sheer and would need to be doubled up, chiffon seems to be the best option but it's also the most expensive!

Attached is a photo of our drapery; you can see we also did drapery over the windows with lights.

I would look into having a professional do it and then how much it would all truly cost to DIY it with the amount of space you have. You may save yourself a headache and some $$ by hiring a pro. Amanda made a really good point too of having all the extra fabric in the garage without having a purpose for it after the wedding.

Omg that's going to be hundreds of dollars in fabric.

Im only doing our ceremony arch and we used organza. I would go crazy trying to do the entire venue. I also vote pro for that.

I think once all the linens are one and chair covers are on it will really spruce the place up. I don't think you need fabric like that. It's a pretty venue as is!

Hire a pro if it's in your budget. Draping is a lot harder than it looks. But if it's not in your budget, IKEA has sheer curtains that I've seen for a lot of DIY projects.
