Dress Alterations

Samantha, on July 17, 2019 at 11:03 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16
Did you guys get your dress alterations done at the same place you bought your dress or did you go somewhere else? How much did you spend on alterations and where are you located?

I’m going someplace else. I got My dress at David’s and they ridiculously overcharge. I found a reputable seamstress to do it for 200 what I need for my dress. 200 for cups added shorted sleeves because they are too long and just the regular make sure it fits great. It wa. She’s also making me a custom rehearsal dress, skirt and garter from my moms wedding dress for 100

Bought my dress in eastern Washington and had it altered at the same place. We removed the illusion front and back, added a bustle and a corset. Total cost was only 150 for alterations.

I got my alterations done elsewhere, I felt they would do a better job where I took it. I spent $670 on alterations, more than I spent on the dress 🙄 I live in Los Angeles and everything is wildly expensive and overpriced.

I bought my dress at David's Bridal. But I took it some place else to get it altered as they ridiculously over price for those. Had I known that I may have purchased my dress elsewhere.

I took mine to a place recommended by the boutique I bought it from, in Fort Collins, CO. She had to take it in quite a bit (lost a bit of weight from when I bought it), about 3 sizes, and she added a bustle. It was $250 and came out perfect.

We got our dresses from a consignment store which did not do alterations. We had our alterations done by a local seamstress in the Washington, DC area. She hemmed NotFroofy's dress, took out the bodice on mine, bustled both of them, and created a blusher for my veil. Total cost was about $100 for each of us.

Picking my dress up Friday 😊 had the alterations done where I got it, David’s Bridal, for about 500$. Had to take a lot of length off the front, arms and sides had to be taken in, and my bustle has 8 layers so they did quite a bit of work

I went elsewhere because basic alterations at the bridal store started at $650 and I thought that was ridiculous.
I went to a local seamstress and will be charged $200 for my alterations. I needed a bustle (getting an under bustle), the straps shortened, and the sides taken in. She's also going to take a look at the boning in the bust area as she didn't really like how it looked.

My alterations are being done at the same
boutique I got my dress. Each dress, depending on its price/etc. has its own cap of how much alterations can cost. I was happy to hear I reached my cap and that nothing more could be charged.. until I heard $500 haha. But I did expect it to be around that price anyway. The cost is for taking in, sewn in cups, hem, bustle, tightening shoulders. My dress is also very detailed. And I’m in Connecticut.

I got my dress at David’s, so obviously skipping their in-house alterations. I have my first appointment with a very well reviewed seamstress from thumbtack next Saturday. No idea what the price will be but I need pretty minimal alterations. No hem, no bustle (tea length dress), just some work on the bodice to get it to sit right.

Haven’t decided yet. A little scared to go anywhere but the designer. I bought a sample dress on sale so I assume it will need more alterations than normal

I bought my dress at David's Bridal, and got it altered there too. They completely over charge. I have it hemmed front ($150) and back ($150), Plus adjusted the "modestly panel" ($50), then added cups ($20). I just thought it was ridiculous to charge me the same price for front and back of my dress, there were no embellishments that needed adjusting, I just didn't want a train. But I chose not to shop around, and paid for the convenience of using them.

I will say, I just got my dress back (!!!) and it is absolutely perfect. They did an amazing job, and I really liked the woman that worked with me.
