Dress colors! Ivory, white, almond...

KentuckyWineBride, on March 14, 2016 at 2:47 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 41

I said yes to my dress this weekend! Has anyone else ordered a completely different color than what you tried on? My dress was almond with ivory lace overlay. I ordered it in ivory with ivory lace overlay. Apparently just plain white is not a popular choice now according to my bridal shop? I was surprised to hear that.

I got ivory on ivory and I love it! The white was WAY bright, I couldn't handle that.

I'm very fair skinned and would have looked totally washed out if I would have picked white. I went with ivory with a gold underlay.

I've been obsessing over dress colors lately! I tried mine on in white and ivory, but they were cut a little differently and the ivory fit much better. I immediately chose the ivory cut, and color, in person, but now I can't remember why. In my (crappy cell phone) pictures, I love them both, but the white is really striking.

However, I've been reading nonstop about it, and all (and I mean ALL) the websites recommend ivory because white washes out a lot of brides, and white doesn't photograph nearly as well as ivory. They suggest ivory for embellished dresses because it's hard to see details in photos on white; and to top it off, they also mentioned that ivory looks white without white directly next to it, so most people won't even realize you aren't wearing true white.

So, I think you made the right choice!

I tried on white and ordered ivory. I was able to see a different sample size (too small for me to try on) of the ivory, before placing my order.

I tried on the ivory and really wanted to order it in champagne. The two ladies at the salon talked me out of it though...they said they had a sample in champagne and it really wasn't champagne but plain brown. They said the sample was so bad they sent it back. I ended up just ordering the ivory that I tried on.

(Edited because trying to type too fast at work)

I feel like the majority goes with ivory. I hated the starkness of a bright white.

I'm with Future Mrs. High...unless I'm really tanned I'm too fair to wear pure white or ivory. My dress is champagne (essentially light gold) with an ivory overlay.

Thank you ladies!! I feel so much better about choosing ivory. Here's a pic of the back of my dress - this is almond with ivory. It'll be in ivory with ivory lace.

My shop said less than 5% of brides choose white these days. Really surprised me

The sample of my dress was bronze with ivory lace. I ordered it in ivory. To me, it looked pretty white, but I'm sure if I'd gotten true white it would have been more so.

My dress is ivory which I thought was white at first. According to the bridal shop where I purchased my dress, white is like a stark white and not flattering on a lot of brides so they only carry samples in other colors other than white

I really thought I'd stick with ivory, but my dress is champagne with ivory overlay. True white looked WAY too harsh on me.

Lace in white tends to look cheap, even if it's not. My mom was hell bent on me wearing white until they brought the lace dress out in white and ivory. She picked ivory(thank goodness we didn't have to disagree about that!)

Mine is ivory - the white in the stores was blinding.

Here are some of the comparisons between white and ivory: here's an up close of the detail on my dress; ivory is much richer and warmer.

And here's the (sorry, reversed!) of my dress in both colors, white on the left (and blurry, sorry, selfie), and the ivory the consultant took on the right.

I usually prefer ivory. Im hoping to find a blush dress! I've seen a ton of ballgowns, but not a lot of other sillhouettes in blush, so we'll see

The only request FH had about my dress was that it NOT be ivory. His ex wore ivory at their wedding. I wanted white anyway. I live the look of ivory, it's just not what I wanted.
