Dress doesn't fit !!! Yikes !!!! Help!

Emily, on September 9, 2016 at 10:18 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

So I went to my first fitting and it was nightmare! When I ordered my dress I was between two sizes , I ordered up thinking it could easily be taken in . Well I went to try it on and omg , took 2 people to try and zip it up and I couldn't even breathe , yet alone sit down . It looks awful on me ! I don't understand what happened , I kept checking the size thinking it was the wrong size , but no , it is the right size. It's a Morie Lee 5108 I believe . I hate to be dramatic but I'm freaking out big time . They told me they could take it out but I wish I could just get a bigger size and have it taken in but no time for that . Has anyone else had to take their dress out ? The salon said it can be taken out 2 inches on each side but I'm skeptical that it will look good . I should have ordered the corset back but I ordered the zipper not even thinking it would be a problem since I thought I was ordering up . I haven't gained weight since then so I'm so confused how this happened .

I go on Monday to try my dress on. I fit perfectly into the size I tried on, let's hope it is the same way, but I am so scared as well! Hope this turns out well for you!

My dress had to be let out in the hips, taken in at the top. The skirt is at an angel, she took it off, raised, let the legs out some.... It can be done. She's made a whole new dress fantasticly. My dress was a sample. This is the only picture I have on my phone but you can't tell anything was done and it was let out more than an inch and she even added fabric in the bottom layer to give more room

Sample dresses are known to stretch. They should have measured you, the ordered the dress according to your largest measurement.

You can change a zipper into a corset on some dresses

The sample was 4 sizes too big , she did measure me and even ordered up to be on the safe side , so it shocked me when it didn't fit . I just have a hard time believing it can be taken out enough to to fit right

See about having the back changed out for a corset back. Then they may not even need to let it out then

If it's mori Lee 5108, I had that exact dress and it's a corset so should be easier to adjust... Mine was stiffer and tighter than then sample but I still have to have it taken in 4 inches... What is the back on yours like? Maybe I can give you some tips.

Here is my dress when I picked it out and here it is on my wedding day.

Also did they order the right "wedding dress" size? Street size I'm a 4 but in wedding dress I was an 8... If they had ordered a 4 I would've died!

It will all work out. Take a deep breath and see what the alterations will look like.

Have you changed your fitness routine at all? I've been a very fluffy 135lbs and a very solid, toned 135 lbs. My measurements were pretty different at these times (plus or minus a few inches).

I had my dress taken out 2 inches in the hips and taken in a few inches in the waist. It can be done.

When my friend got married I was MOH in her wedding, we were young, and I had no idea about how to get fitted for a dress - so when the sales lady said "this sample fits - we'll just order that size" I said "ok" and paid.

I lost about 15 pounds, and when the dress came in we couldn't really zip it. The dress was taken apart completely and reconstructed giving me every inch available - and she did an awesome job! If you have a good seamstress, they can work miracles!

@NowASeptMrs , I ordered the zipper back , wish I would have ordered the corset . The dress looks absolutely stunning on you !!!

They ordered a bridal 8, I'm usually a 2-4 in street dresses , my measurements were somewhat in the bridal size 6 , but we ordered an 8 to be safe . So when it was soooooo tight I was shocked . I mean it was giving me back fat big time and I could not sit down .

I've heard of dresses being stiff & a bit snug brand new, but this just seems off. Like the sizing tag was sewn onto the wrong sized dress. Maybe that's what happened & your dress is actually a 6 instead of the 8 showing on the tag? I had to have my dress taken out about an inch on each side less than a week before my wedding. My dress was a sample dress and fit me perfect (if maybe a tad loose even) when I bought it in March. I have a chronic health issue that requires daily medication & my doctors changed some of them in early May. My first official fitting was June 6 & my dress was snug but nothing more. I knew it was the new meds & figured I would exercise more & lose the weight. No such luck. My 2nd fitting was the last week in June & my dress barely zipped. I could't breathe in it & absolutely could not sit down. My seamstress said it was no big deal and that she would just take it out. I however, was devastated and in denial & told her no & that I would lose the weight to fit into my dress. I was not being realistic. I had gained nearly 15 pounds. Needless to say, we let the dress out. You could see where the prior seam had been (stitch marks) but once she steamed my dress that disappeared & you can not tell that it was let out.

@Mrs_MLF , I was thinking the same thing , I thought it was mislabeled . I'm glad to hear your dress had a happy ending and that you couldn't tell it had been let out , that's my fear that my dress will look like its been taken out .

I also have the 5108! The corset should help. Mine is stiff, but comfortable. They actually ordered me two sizes down from the sample, because the top would accommodate my wide rib cage and very narrow hips.

I agree with Helen, look at altering it to a corset back. Maybe a lace insert/panel? I've seen backless dress that have a strap going across. Altering services should have multiple ideas and options.

I typed in Morie Lee 5108 back to find pics of the back of the dress. Thankfully you didn't get buttons. I think you will be fine

They may have mis measured you because the lady who measured me said I was a perfect size 2, but I ordered a size 4 to be safe...thank GOD I did, or else it wouldn't have zipped up! The bodes is still a bit snug, if I gained a lb it would show, but fortunately for me I'm typically the same weight. I am so sorry this has happened to you, but I have faith everything will workout okay!
