Dress doesn't fit

Alexis, on February 22, 2022 at 12:14 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 3 4

My wedding is in 3months, and I tried my dress on yesterday...it doesn't fit! I've been going to the gym and I have not gained any weight, so I dont understand. The only thing I can think of is I've gained some muscle mass to my back from the exercising, so maybe that's why I can't zip it? But it's probably a good 3-3.5 inches from closing. I have an outlet that I bought it from that would buy it back from me, and I could find an alternative. Or is getting it altered by that much worth it? Here's the thing, when I realized it didn't fit, I didn't feel devastated. I just felt stressed because I need something in a short time. Is that normal, maybe because of the stress? I'm wondering now if this isn't the dress for me and that's why I don't feel too upset. The thing is, my mother LOVES this dress and was so heartbroken when I told her. I'm torn, and could use some (positive) advice! Thanks in advance!

If you really don't love the dress anymore then maybe you should try on some other dresses. Then you can decide if you still like this one. For alterations, they can see a corset back into the dress. Would that look go with the style of your dress?

If you can find a talented private seamstress that will be the cheapest way of expanding it. I bought a reception dress and needed to let it out in the hips and its only costing me 160.

Keep in mind if you go with another dress you will only be able to try on samples and have to purchase a sample.

Adding a corset back panel is pretty easy and SHOULD be inexpensive as well. I have done ma y for brides, and usually charge a flat fee of $150.00. This pictured dress was a bit more because I added the beading on either side to make a seamless transition from gown to inset.Dress doesn't fit 1

I agree that if you really love this dress, a corset back is going to be the quickest and easiest way to alter it. Wedding dresses often also have fairly large seam allowances, so it's possible that they could let the back out enough without needing to at the corset too - just depends on the way the dress was made.

On the other hand if you're not that fussed, you could easily sell this one back and buy something else you like just as much that fits perfectly... well I'm not seeing a downside to that solution either!
