Dress ideas?!

Kevin, on February 25, 2020 at 11:45 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 11
So my fiancé and I have been together since junior year of high school. We have always joked that I will wear my prom dress and his tux to our wedding rehearsal dinner or something. Eight years later and my dress doesn’t fit anymore! I’m not surprised though, but he of course fits in his get up just fine. I want to find a way to incorporate my dress into the wedding some how I’m totally fine with cutting it to pieces it doesn’t fit anyway so why not. My dress is purple satin and our wedding colors are purple and grey. So it matches perfectly but what to do what to do!

Towards the end of your reception could you change into it?

I wish I could! It’s way too small. It’s a size 8 and I’m now a size 16 so even with alterations it’s a no go Smiley sad

Nuts. Can you put a photo of you both from prom on your guestbook table so the dress can be with you in spirit?

Can you turn it into just a skirt and wear a different top? Like a two piece

Maybe take a piece of it and create a sash for your dress or use a strip of it to tie around your bouquet like a ribbon?

Cut it up and use it as decorations on your sweet heart table and maybe wrap your flowers in it

Daughter wanted to wear her grandmother's wedding dress (which I and my sister had also worn), but it was 4" too short and there was just no way to make it work. We cut a long piece of the lace from the sleeve and the florist used that to wrap around daughter's bouquet stems. She said it was like "gramma was holding her hand all day." Smiley winking You could similarly use some of the fabric to wrap your stems and/or have a pocket square made for FH. So sweet! (Daughter and SIL met freshman year and became an exclusive couple mid-way through their sophomore year. She had quite a collection of photographs from all those school dances, graduations, etc., that they'd shared during the eight years before they got married. On Shutterfly she created a ~ 9x13" photo book titled, "Our Story" that she displayed at both the RD and at the wedding. It had a selection of photos starting with the night he asked her to "be his girlfriend" when she was 15 through their engagement photos....) Smiley heart Congratulations!

I would take it to a seamstress, They may have some really great ideas! Maybe they could make it into a short dress rather than full length, and use that extra fabric from the length to make the dress a bit larger to fit. Putting in a corset back will always give you tons more room also

I'm not sure what style your wedding dress is, but with the style of your prom dress (my wedding dress is similar and going to have ruching) - I am going to incorporate a seam of flowers through the seams of the bust area. Can you find a way to do something similar with your dress? Use the purple to accent some of your dress?

I loved the idea of using it around your flowers or wedding decorations. That would allow maximum use.
