Dress panic - update page 3

Del, on August 24, 2017 at 12:15 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 58

I have an absolutely beautiful wedding dress that I love. I also have a problem.

I have Hidradenitis Suppurativa. I've posted about this before, but it's an autoimmune condition that causes unsightly, bleeding boils on my chest, stomach and upper arms. It's treatable, but not fully manageable. Some people here suggested clean eating to deal with it. I've been doing that. But some medication I'm taking for an unrelated condition (DVT) is really kicking it out of control. I tried on my dress today, and the tightness of the top made two boils burst. There's blood and pus on my dress.

And I'm so scared it will be like this on my wedding day. Visible blood stains on my white gown, my beautiful tulle caplet, in all my pictures. A sore opening up mid-party and starting to bleed in front of everyone. I can't manage this.

FH says that it's not a big deal at all and no one will notice, but if I want I can get a dress where bloodstains won't show. He says he would be thrilled to marry me in dark red, or purple (my favorite color) or even black. On one level, I'm pretty non-traditional and can see the appeal. But on another level, I have been picturing myself in THIS dress ever since I bought it a year ago. I love it. I hate to think of wasting it.

    I hate my stupid body.

Hmmm...have you talked to your physician and asked the best course if action? They may have some ideas.

I'm sorry you have to deal with that added stress on top of normal wedding stress. I know first hand autoimmune disorders are the worst.

Do you think pre-bandaging the site might help with the bleed-thru?

I also have an autoimmune disease. I'm so sorry you have to worry about this. It sucks, I'm having anxiety about my wedding day too. Do they prescribe prednisone for this? Is it an inflammation problem? When I take prednisone it reduces inflammation all over my body, my skin clears up.

I was going to suggest what others have, can you put band aids, gauze and tape? something to hold the bleeding back if something was to burst during your day.

I'm so sorry you're going through this! Can you get this dress dyed to be red or purple so that you're still wearing this dress that you love?

If it was me, I would wear your dream dress!! I'm very sorry I don't know much about your condition. Is there any way you can bandage the areas or put anything under the dress to absorb/stop anything from actually getting on the dress? I've heard that sticking panty liners in shoe heels for example helps blisters. Is there any way to alter your dress to make it less tight without ruining the look? I'm sure you will be absolutely beautiful in whatever you decide Smiley smile I would choose whatever you would feel most beautiful and confident in!!

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this Smiley sad is there some sort of treatment that's short term that you could do right before the wedding to clear things up- like the equivalent of a cortisone shot or something?

Thanks for the suggestions guys! The big worry is the blisters on the underside of my upper arms. My dress is strapless and my capelet gives a bit of coverage but not as much as I'd hoped. Unless I can sort out these sores, and no more in the same area appear, then even if I tape and gauze, there's a very good likelihood of seeing some stained bandages when I move.

ETA: I did talk to the doctor, but he wants to be very conservative right now. The DVT is dangerous; the boils are just painful and gross. So he doesn't want to do anything aggressive with them while we treat the DVT for fear of medications interfering with each other.

How about a cute shawl type thing to cover the area just in case? That way you're protected if something happens but can go without it if not ETA: that would make your dress look different though Smiley sad

It sounds like she already has that @Lindsey.

Sorry to be repetitive, but have you asked your doctor about anything that can quickly and temporarily clear it up? My doctor gave me a prednisone scrip for just in case during the wedding/honeymoon.

A shawl could be super cute!! Is your wedding more fall or winter? With either themes you could totally pull off a shawl or something similar with some coverage in your wedding colors or the reds/ purples! Pinterest has super cute shawl things for winter weddings

Just saw your update. So sorry! I wonder if you could ask one of your BM's to be extra vigilant if they see a stain, and quickly whisk you away to cover it and use a tide pen/chalk?

Can your skin tolerate liquid bandage? You could use that and if it looks red you can use light makeup on top.

I'm worried about having a Lupus flare which is stressful and that might lead to it lol. Try your best to remain positive and calm, stress really exacerbates autoimmune issues.

Alternate colour dress is actually a neat idea in my opinion.

What if you had a red dress for the reception and you can wear your white dress for the ceremony and If things are under control you could wear your white dress!

I also suffer from HS and I'm so nervous about the wedding day. Just trying on dresses is embarrassing. I have to wear bandages all the time and I cut up pantyliners and use those over the wounds and then the bandaid over them. Im adding sleeves (because I bought a strapless) just to cover the underarm area. That is what would make me feel the most comfortable. I still worry that the bandaids will move or become unsticky if I sweat. I'm always here to chat cause this condition is horrible.
